It pains me to type this: FA Cup Round 3 Liverpool 1-3 Arsenal
Congratulations to Arsenal. They were better in keeping composure. Seriously, I have no idea what Benitez is thinking sometimes. Dudek in goal over Reina!? In an FA Cup match?? Sure Dudek was a Hero of Istanbul, but he hasn't been playing first team football for so long that he's definitely not fit enough to play against Arsenal of all people. Those first two goals conceded could have been easily punched away by Reina. And I seriously don't know why Benitez didn't use Bellamy who could've easily unsettled Senderos, the rock of the Arsenal defence. Overall, Liverpool lost the defence of the FA Cup to poor team selection and not taking their chances (again). |

Yesterday's matches were upsetting T_T: Celtic 0 - Milan 0 PSV 1 - Arsenal 0 Lille 0 - Man. United 1 Real Madrid 3 - Bayern 2 Van Bommel keeping Bayern alive with two away goals. So they still have a fighitng chance. So do Arsenal, but wow. Celtic can hold up against MILAN!? Im definitly curious on how far can they go. Todays FAV match : Liverpool vs Barcelona. Indeed.. I'm gonna stay up in front of my TV .. screw my morning class.
I'm dissappointed with Arsenal's performances on the 2nd half tho. But we have a home advantage in the next leg, so there still hopes >.<

Barcelona 1 - 2 Liverpool Crisis? What crisis? And everyone was saying how Liverpool's season was over after the two cup thrashings by Arsenal. Especially when both goals are scored by the "Golf Club Duo" - Bellamy and Riise. I suspect it's all a ruse to fool the tabloids into thinking the Reds are in tatters. The same cannot be said of Barca, where Rijkaard left the dissenting Eto'o off the list tonight. This is a brilliant result for Liverpool, though there's still the second leg, but Anfield will hopefully be the crucial 12th man to topple the holders. |

Whoa, Liverpool won in Camp Nou. Can't say I'm not surprised >.<
And wasn't the transfer of Eto'o already decided? Javier Saviola has been a hell of a replacement for him, and after all those problems I heard he was already committed for transfer.

Mar 6th UEFA Champions League First Knockout Round 2nd Leg
Liverpool 0 - 1 Barcelona (Aggregate 2-2, Liverpool progress on away goals) Two consecutive 0-1 home defeats for Liverpool, and yet the reaction could never have been so different, for the second one was built on the crucial two away goals in the first leg. After Gudjohnsen scored, it was a pretty tense finish, but overall, it was Benitez's tactical plan that held out the Barca siege. Lyon 0 - 2 Roma (Roma win 2-0 on aggregate) Perhaps a surprise as everyone thought Lyon would progress at home after holding Roma to a goalless draw. Well done to Roma, ensuring Serie A gets at least one representative in the last eight. Valencia 0 - 0 Inter (Aggregate 2-2, Valencia win on away goals) Thanks to the two crucial away goals in the first leg, Valencia manage to hold out Inter to a draw and made sure La Liga also has one team in the quarters at least. Chelsea 2 - 1 Porto (Chelsea win 3-2 on aggregate) There was never any doubt Chelsea would go through after winning 1-0 in the first leg, though there was quite a scare as Porto scored first. |

UEFA Champions League Quarter Finals 2nd Leg
Tuesday 11th April Man Utd 7 - 1 AS Roma (Man Utd win 8-3 on aggregate) While it was expected that Man Utd would win, it was shocking to see Roma just lay down so easily and get trampled all over. Valencia 1 - 2 Chelsea (Chelsea win 3-2 on aggregate) Michael Essien's last minute goal means that Chelsea becomes the first English side to win at the Mestalla, after Shevchenko's strike cancelled out Morientes' goal. Wednesday 12th April Liverpool 1 - 0 PSV (Liverpool win 4-0 on aggregate) Most of the work by Liverpool has already been done in the first leg where they won 3-0, a strike from Crouch simply puts the final nail in the coffin for PSV. It also means Crouch is now joint top scorer with AC Milan's Kaka at 6 goals each. Bayern Munich 0 - 2 AC Milan (AC Milan win 4-2 on aggregate) Probably the surprise result, as Bayern had the upper hand in the first leg when they had two away goals in the San Siro. But it seems injury have cost them this game. Semi-finals (1st Leg - 24/25 April, 2nd Leg - 1/2 May) Chelsea v Liverpool Man Utd v AC Milan Three Premiership sides in the semi-final, also ensuring at least one Premiership side gets to the final for three consecutive seasons now. Once again Jose Morinho and Rafa Benitez meet in the Champions League for the third consecutive season, while Man Utd would want to avenge getting defeated by AC Milan two seasons ago. |

Whoa, guess all the football/soccer fans have gone quiet after thread regulars like KiNa and Itachikun disappeared when luckless Arsenal were knocked out of all competition in quick succession a few months back.
C'mon, guys, at least say something, or it'll look like I'm talking to myself, albeit weeks apart from the last post. Tonight is the semi-final second leg of Liverpool vs Chelsea at Anfield. Liverpool lost the first leg 1-0 thanks to a Joe Cole goal, and now the situation is dire for the Reds. Lose and this will be the final meaningful game of the season, win and they'll be able to dispel the media hype of the "treble battle" between Man U and Chelsea in the Premiership, FA Cup and Champions League, and make their presence felt once again. Anfield and the Kop will be roused like never before, this will be even bigger than the atmosphere in 2005 when Liverpool won. There's still a few hours left before kick off and as a fan, I'm already feeling the vibes, I can't sleep and I've not got the appetite to eat anything. At any case, here's hoping for the best for the Reds, and in case of a worst case scenario, make sure Jose Morinho leaves Anfield with a bloodied nose at the very least! |
