Never mind the darker 'fantasies' people, both men and women have about rape.

i read mostly scifi/fantasy and while the subject does come up here there it is more a exception then the rule. now that i think about it is defintely more prevalent in works by Female Authors then Male Authors.

I've not read it, but from what I've heard of '50 shades of grey' it is pretty much this, or quite borderline with all the BDSM. * I read a psychological paper a couple years ago from the APA that covered the topic, it was pretty interesting with the stats it mentioned about how many women have fantasies about things like rape and the like. Of course they wouldn't want it to really happen though. The article implied that it tied back to baser parts of human psyche, things like dominant and alpha characteristics and the like.

Crime from Japan: 3 men held for murder, confess to making curry from victim’s remains
http://www.japantoday.com/category/c...ictims-remains At the very least, it seems like no one ate these "curried remains". The victim's remains were cooked in curry to cover up the smell, is what investigators believe. This story is terrible and disturbing, but if this victim's remains were eaten, it'd only make all of this all the worse.

Wasn't there a furor a while back over the Tomb Raider reboot and the creators' need to add in a "tragic backstory" and a "sexually threatening" scene involving Lara Croft? Oh, right. This.
The first commenter for this article is basically saying, in epic, glorious flames which won many internets, what the sci-fi author is now saying to her wonderfully rapey and presumably male (it's hinted somewhere in the comments) fan. So I don't think McGuire is complaining about the "female rape fantasy" smutty romance novel, but rather the "rape as character development (for females only)" attitude you sometimes find in the darker and edgier side of general pulp fiction -- fantasy, sci-fi, video games, what have you. But yeah I don't encounter them much either. Then again, I'm not a fan of grimdark and I tend to drop things, quick and no regrets, if I feel something I'm not gonna like coming up. So maybe I was just that good at self-selecting. |
