To be honest I always like the third edition tieflings in DND. Rarely uniform in apperence and typicaly evil it quite a deep set way. It wasn't that it's impossable to have a none evil one, but there evil was default and close to hardwired in

While I don't think it going to ruin the show, most anime demonkin typicaly have a human like mind and no issue learning human ethics... I much rather have ones who learning such would be the mental version version of climbing a cliff face!

Now that I think about it, have we ever had a cooking series where people enjoy food for what it is, and there is no "exaggerated reaction"?
Yakitate completely went nuts and kinda became a parody of itself towards the end ,
and I don't need to mention Soma or Koufuki Graffiti, right? Dem "graphics" that is

Amaama to Inazuma is close, but I never felt "cooking for the sake of cooking" was the main focus, it was more about the characters dealing with their personal problems
There's Bartender, a series about wine and spirits, but like you say things tend towards watching different people solving their problems using specific drinks, their history and preparation as catalysts.

This was a pleasant surprise with some solid potential - yessiree, color me interested.

I think I will commit to this one as well! ^^

Must admit that one of the interesting things about the series is the premise of the story ... I could easily see a few ways the characters and material presented could play themselves out, and they all look interesting. XD

Interesting cooking series

From the summaries, it looks like all the food will just be common food we already know in "this world"

But for the "other world" the food we have is made from technology and techniques they have yet to learn of (the other world is pretty much standard fantasy world living in medieval age)

I think this series is just going to be a sort of story telling where each episode tells about certain people (or groups) from the other world that goes on adventures and ends up coming to this world to eat food, lol.

Also, interestingly... why is this Restaurant the only portal to the other world? through the door no less... and the door is apparently everywhere spread out in the other world... wonder if they'll tell us later about it, or remain a sort of mystery... (tho we did get a hint about a contract with one of the six great dragon of the other world... and apparently she makes it out to sound like the Restaurant is part of her "treasure" and belongs to her... lol)

Episode 1 made me have some questions...

1. How did the chef know how much to charge his customers from another world?

2. Do they all pay in silver and gold coins?

3. When the customers are about to have a fight.. they stopped when the chef told them to stop. Do they respect him because of the food? Or they respect him because they know he is protected by a dragon?

Hmmm...

1) Because he is second generation owner of restaurant that runs several decades already, they had time figure things out.

2)Yes

3) No otherworld food is worse than any dragon. Even natural enemies ignore each other when ban is alternative...

The chef made the assumption that 10,000 yen, Japanese student minimum wage, is worth 10 silver coins. Using current real life exchange rate it actually adds up to 480 yen per coin, assuming it is 8 grams per coin. So he is paying her 4800yen worth of silver. But this likely assumed to put into account that rare metals are less rare in real life than in fantasy medieval worlds. It also makes his mental math easier to directly convert Yen to silver coins.

Also for completion's sake, 13th century medieval society converts between 12 to 18 silver coins to a single 8 gram gold coin.

A 13th century labourer need to spend 3 days to earn a gram of gold, or 24 days to earn a full 8 gram gold coin.

This meant gold and silver are about 8-10 times more valuable in medieval society than the modern day.

It also means the waitress is basically being paid the equivalent of three weeks wages for every day of work she does. But that's the difference with having minimum wage laws. Ancient world's wages sucked.
Apparently for single day she would make enough money to buy 1/10 if boar or 3-5 rabbits. Single pot of street stew can be bought for 2 copper coins.

That was pretty good, though I wonder why no one mentioned the ED? Finally Yasuno was given a chance to start her solo career after the Saekano success, and boy was this ED such a treat to listen to, her best work yet!

Something about this show just makes me smile. Although I do have to say that watching this immediately after watching Symphogear gives a bit of a feeling of mental whiplash.

PS: Aletta still a cute.

EBI FRY!! heh, I liked that story, it was very ... random.

Also, apparently, this door opens on multiple locations in the same alternate world on a saturday, either inside a mine, on an abandoned ruin, or somewhere in the wilderness where somebody even made a cabin around the door.

Or maybe the waitress and the dragon was in the same world, while the wizard, samurai and the knight are in another world? Does the snake person and that lion guy also live in the same world?

Anime really did great
both food porn and how each character from fantasy world interact with each other ( and their favorite dish )

The treasure hunter, at least, comes from the same world as the dragon and waitress - she knew a demon when she saw one. But it's probably just one world anyway - their menus are written in the "Eastern language", no attempt was made to determine what world they came from before asking if they knew it.

The treasure hunter became a regular (I guess all who know about the doors become regulars...) - I wonder what that means for her career? Did she also just give up on adventuring and stayed in the mining town, or did she learn the locations of several doors, like the samurai? I wonder if it's possible to use the doors to travel, or if you always exit at the door you entered from.

Ep 02

Okay ... that was great. I am so totally sold on this one! Turned out to be better than I expected too.

If the entire cour was filled with narratives like episode 2 I would be as happy as a clam.

Part of me was just waiting for Ryou and Kirin from Koufuku Graffitti to suddenly walk through the magic door into the restaurant.

Incidentally, I agree that the ED is quite a treat to listen to. ^^

Well, she doesn't need money in first place and estate build by her grandpa where Gold family lives is probably her home base. As for treasure hunting, you usually don't wander randomly. You have own channels and connection to get clue, then make preparation before actual travelling. So I don't think she need change anything.

Episode 2

It's nice to see treasure hunter Sarah getting screen time. Seems this show has a lovable cast so far with diverse personalities.

The food this episode looked very ordinary tbh but I think the anime captured the texture and details well. The mystery vibe also is nice and I kinda like how the show even gave a glimpse of Sarah's childhood. Second half of this episode really gave more of an adventure feel. It's interesting that travelers, adventurers, and all type of people finding this restaurant .

Understand that the food IS ordinary. The restaurant is known to be affordable fare for local business people. But the point here is to keep the perspective of what a modern society can afford to produce compared to a medieval world.

I'm waiting for Ainz Ooal Gown to drop by for some salaryman udon and itzakaya nibbles, gyoza and a draft beer.

Very pleasant series, will watch more.

Shripe? Is this the isekai version of shrimp?
Also, this episode reveals some interesting thing about shrimps and ice, as well as the absence of lemons in the otherworld. Come to think of it, shrimps and ice often show up in opposing climates; shrimps taste best in some tropical regions, while ice can only last long in very cold climates. Without modern technology, ice and fresh seafood cannot co-exist.

Damn, I could use some tonkatsu right now. :Q
