As I thought, a perfect anime for the summer. It was even better than I expected. The girls look really really good and the sport is being taken seriously. Sold.

Cute girls in bikinis, serious competition, and it seems like almost every episode will be be beach episode. A fitting series for the summer.

...Anyways, putting the story (<-?????) aside, the body of the character designs aren't that bad. But the face is... meh. Thankfully, you don't look at the faces in this anime?

I'm pretty sure someone else already came up with it since it's an obvious one, but the show's tagline should have been: "There are no aces in Beach Volley, only asses"

And where is Haak? Kanae Itou is in this!!!

Listen man. Have you ever considered the possibility that I have an identity outside of loving Kanae Itou? It may be the only and entire reason I'm watching this show in the first place. It may be a little weird that I'd watch a show full of arse and tits purely because of a voice actor. And may be the only thing I watched out of this season so far. But that does NOT mean that I'm all about Kanae Itou.

Come to think of it, how the hell did it take so long for an anime about Beach Volley to show up? It just seems like such an obvious choice. Did I just somehow miss the previous ones?

While I showed up because Haruka's hot as hell, there's actually a bit of an interesting foundation the first episode lays down for what's to come, and that's keeping me interested in seeing where Harukana Receive is going.

Obviously the characters look great and all. But I think what will carry this show is the characters. So much more enjoyable than say Hanebado which actually had quite a few similar elements.

Haruka carries the show with pure positivity. Even when that one girl was bordering on being a jerk, it didn't matter since positivity could just shut her down. She has an issue with the concept of "aces" well too bad, Haruka's energy cares not for your negative attitude!

Even Kanata was quite likable. She certainly fits as the quiet girl who clearly has had some unfortunate experiences. But she's not just that. She can open up when she's swept up in the moment and openly has fun with her turtle. They set up what likely happened to her with beach volleyball, why she's reserved, and yet kept her someone you can like more than just someone you feel bad for.

A strong overall package.

I'm with you there. In fact, I've long held that watching the seemingly unfriendly characters warm up to others over time is a process that I'm always down to watch, as it makes things way more meaningful. Such is the power of optimism!

I agree the characters will carry the series, but I think the sports aspect is also going to be quite good. In the first episode alone, they casually showed us that it's different from volleyball because of the effects the sun, the sand, and the wind have. Once Kanata starts teaching the basics to Haruka, I expect them to go into more details.

I admit I picked it up because of the hot girls in swimsuits though

Good first episode. It's not one of those full on ecchi shows but actually takes the sport quite seriously, so I'm glad about that. Of course, given the sport, of course we are going to see a lot of T and A.

This is the third anime I've seen in the summer 2018 season that had its first episode plot continue through the ending credits. Is this a new trend moving forward in the anime industry?

Yeah that process is something I'm usually all for watching. Just makes you feel good seeing friendliness and optimism lead to that end result.

And honestly just kind of nice to see Haruka's reaction to the loss being what it was. Sure she has a desire to win and wants to do better. But darn it she also had a good time .

Maybe I just appreciate seeing people handle failure and defeat better than I normally do . A reminder that there is a more enjoyable way to handle even those things.
