Spoiler for Thoughts (edits made to Zero Two/Nana/Nine Alpha observations):

- Nana is alive, but wheelchair-bound...? (I realize now that it could just be a normal chair with a sci-fi design, though.)

- Nine Alpha is alive, but barely. He looks awful. It could just be the editing of the teaser, but it seems like Miku is the one visiting him? Kind of interesting since we've never seen the two of them directly interact.

- Goro x Ichigo will actually/finally get some more delevopment.

- Seems like Zero Two isn't dead, but indeed mentally broken in some way. I also noticed that the camera angles they chose distinctly do not allow us to see her horns. Hmm...

- Our pregnancy sideplot is quickly shuffling up to the forefront. Mitsuru and Kokoro's reactions suggest to me that either they're horrified by the information due to not having gotten their memories back yet... and/or perhaps this show really will go dark enough to have the baby terminated or miscarried?

It also seems like we will be dealing with the "replacement" Nana again. This combined with shot of aircraft in the sky seems to suggest to me that the remaining adults probably want to go to space? But that doesn't strike me as sensical or wise, given the loss of Dr. Franxx and their lack of resources. I could be wrong and it'll turn out it's something else entirely, though. We will see.

I'm actually looking forward to the episode more than I thought I would now.

I'd gotten this feeling before but it felt like the "climax" of the main story was ep 21 and the rest is more of an extended epilogue. Maybe aliens will come back before the end but I don't think the Earthlings are remotely prepared for it. You never know though - the pacing of this series is rather wonky at times (or at least, it feels that way to me).

To me looks like the following episode would deal with the aftermath from the previous one.

Almost everyone looks gloomy and sullen, as if experiencing a massive depression bout.

Zero Two is neither dead nor comatose, however, judging from her behavior and bed ridden looks she seems sort of catatonic; must have witness something traumatic from when Klaxx-hime merged consciousness with her.

As well, it kind of suggests to me that a potential time skip could follow in the episode after this one but forwarding to months (not years) given that some emphasis would be dealt to Kokoro's pregnancy.

Everyone's in a slump, struggling to figure out their perspective problems in their situations. The VIRM are already distances away to get their stuff together, leaving the Earthlings some time.

That's the gist of the kids growing up and becoming adult to the best of their abilities. However, with Dr. Franxx no longer amongst the living anymore, I don't see a long life in their future.

In a sense, we see that the children have finally gotten what they wanted; free of Virm, who decided to retreat with Hringhorni in tow, they now have their freedom. However, as Goro notes, all they have now is "food to eat, a place to sleep, and a place to die."

They have lost the motivating and driving purpose that they once had, and they strain against it; every day brings them something new and challenging; now they must raise life from and on dead soil. This is literal in the case of Kokoro, who--judging by the time-skip--is bringing into the world the first human baby in over a century; there's no institutional wisdom to guide her or Mitsuru; we raise our children and enculturate them so that they might raise their own children. However nothing of the sort has happened in a society that rendered the very idea of reproduction taboo.

Meanwhile, Hiro struggles with Zero-Two, who has clearly been reduced to a quasi-vegetative state; it's clear that she gave her all, and that whatever constitutes Darlifra's concept of the "soul" has probably gone out with Star Entity/Strelitzia Apath. And Hiro is clearly devastated by the fact that while he and Zero-Two are still together, she's not really there; even now their circumstances are still a cage.

Yep, it's exactly what will result after being suppressed for so long. Things are going back to how it was and will be again, these kids are going to learn how life really is without Papa. The world they lived in, despite so many flaws in their former society had convenience that they've been used too, but now it's gone when the veil was uncovered and the true enemy revealed themselves. So they need to figure it out for themselves in order to live. This makes viewers worried for Squad 13 in this new challenge. How to make food, how to find other ways to use resources to live, and how to bring life into the world. And we're going to see some people in the Squad let it all out with this aftermath.

My friend working in Trigger Studio as animator and he told me that the ending of this anime is pretty bad. The reason that 02 look so bad because she lost her horns, with Klaux, their horn somehow is their life source (will be explain in ep 22), it keep them survive and store their memories (That's why everytime 02 try to access to the memories from the past, her horn size changed). So when her horn gone, then she have a few days left to live. That why The Nine also look so pretty bad because they are her clone, if she lost her horn, so they are (even it just a hollow horns), all of them will die if 02 die.

BUT

02 will alive, I don't know this is good or bad, but Hiro will transfer his "life source" to 02 (in ep 24), to save her, and at the end, you know what happen if Klaux lose their horn, so Hiro are. Thing even worse and more tragic when the VIRM come back in ep 23...

That's all I know, he say that If I want to know the rest, I have to watch it because he doesn't want to spoiler.

You guys will need a lot lot of tissues for ep 23 and 24. I'm pretty sure.

It's on the internet so it must be true. On the bright side it won't be long until we find out.

Anyway, about the preview:

1. The kids apparently know how to farm. Where'd they get the equipment from? How the hell is the planet going to grow anything?!
2. The ships look like Klaxosaur tech. They're blue.
3. "New" Nana is telling Kokoro something. It's apparently shocking to everyone except the audience.
4. Zero Two is a vegetable. Hiro is feeding her what looks like beans. New show this fall: Darling with the Franxx and Beans.
5. Goro and Ichigo are resuming the obvious romance ship. You know, now that we got the lesbian confession and childhood crushes out of the way.
6. Oof, Nine looks...very sick. Poor guy. Girl. Guy? So confusing.
7. Miku might be taking care of him? I feel like this one is a red herring.
8. There's a transport ship. It's probably transporting someone.
9. We see "old" Nana in a wheelchair. You know, the cool X-men styled one. I'm sure it's not an intentional parallel.
10. Mitsuru wants to talk to someone but won't knock on their door. Way to continue never taking the initiative.
11. Goro has a yelling match with Hiro. Well...at Hiro. We know Hiro has no emotion unless he's yelling Zero Two's name.
12. Zero Two is out of her room, Hiro tries to bring her back. He notices she's staring at the sky. Dun dun dun....


Soooo, this is obviously a calm before the storm episode where we see how the leftovers of human civilization are surviving and stuff until the VIRM obviously return to finish things off. Which means a whirlwind of characters talking to each other for some last moments of development and a cliffhanger leading to the (most likely) two part finale of fun and j-pop insert songs over screaming voice actors delivering the finishing blow.

wow didnt think this show was gonna spawn the old "My [insert relation here] works for [insert company here]." statements. and as expected that whole comment is dumb. I dont think the ending will be 100% happy for everyone but we have so much bait that Hir02 is gonna be fine I want to believe they get a good ending.
