Yeah, that sucks... =.=
Trust me, I go through long runs where I just get dealt the worst tiles imaginable (1s and 9s when looking for tanyao, or honours when looking for pinfu)... O-O~

Alright fine, I get lucky too.
http://tenhou.net/0/?log=2010061208g...70de4be08&tw=3 Sadly, no reverse dora. I had attempted honitsu/yakuhai in the last hand but failed. But this time I really did have a single suit hand. Of course the suji rule holds. =p Middle tiles of the other suit coming up and an overflow of the final suit. 1 47 are the worst here too since I also riichi on the 5, though East has a bigger excuse here since it's not that late in the game and he is very behind. My actual winning tiles were 1469 (though 1 obviously can't be gotten.) Would have been awesome to tsumo the 9 sou for sanrenpon (3 consecutive pon) but I don't know if Tenhou recognizes that.

Oh, I didn't even notice the junchan possbility, thanks.
It wouldn't be a junchan with 3 consecutive pon because i'd end up with 777 888 999 But does 3 identical straights (sanrenko) get counted by the site? I'd lose 3 an kou and it'd be Junchan (3) pinfu (1) chinitsu (6) Riichi (1) Sanrenko (2)=13 Ah, same thing really. Then again, it's enough luck for me that the hand finishes the game for me in 1st.

lol@ South for picking a worse tenpai (single wait, no yaku??) and a tile that's just as dangerous
But then maybe he felt he would lose anyways. But since 4 and 7 sou are along the same line he might as well grab the bull by the horns and toss out the 7 sou which would be marginally better against the across player (7 would complete less draws if that guy was in tenpai) and be able to win to secure 3rd place. The game will not end unless you score big in a few turns so dragging the game to the next round isn't a bad idea at all. Dealing the 4 sou is just a half assed move that leads to stuff like this. But hey, it's good for you. The guy is high rank though; perhaps he just thinks on a few levels higher.

Ugh, terrible game from me. I misclick and end up in furiten and it's a mess. But I feel most sorry for the poor soul to my left. If you thought you were unlucky, you should check that out. Also, note South 4th; it's hillarious. In retrospect, I should have thrown away the 2 souths because a 1000 pt hand wouldn't do jack.

Speaking of shitty games, here's one from me. XD
However, I came across an interesting scenario: Spoiler:
South 3-1: (Round 3, Bonus 1) Basically, I was sitting at 4th by this point - but - still within reasonable range to win. Quite frankly, this hand would have done it for me. I managed to develop a tenpai wait for either Daisaigen - or - Honitsu, Shosangen, and 2 Dora. With two guys in riichi, they won't be able to prevent themselves from getting hit. So, instead of bailing, I wanted the hit. At this late stage of the game, I had to go for the hit. Unfortunately, I got burned. Now, the question is: Would you go for the hit (win), or bail? I thought about this question when that 6-pin came up. Sitting at 4th, I felt like I had nothing to lose - other than my feelings. XD And as for that video in YouTube... I was watching this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4wkGHQjF5M <3 Quote:
Well... in the game I just posted here... I just went ahead with a cheap win at the end... just for a moral victory. And y'know what? I felt better - despite ending up 4th. I suppose, it was my last chance to get the other players the "finger". **sigh** ... spiteful last-place play... XD

South 4th Ok, I think I jumped the gun too early, maybe I was annoyed that the 4 man landed instead of a 7. I probably should have waited a bit to straighten out this hand since it's so early on right? edit: Wat, should have thrown out 6 ...

Oh damn... and to think... the 7-wan after 1-go-around was mocking you... which would have set up Ryanpeiko. Would have been Ippatsu too, had Riichi been called then.
And so... the trippy question of the day: When to call Richi? When not to call Richi? === A couple of weeks ago. I had a Junchan in South 2, within 2 go-arounds. Had I called Richi immediately, it would have been Ippatsu; and a 5-han hand would have been bumped up to at least 7. Woulda won that one too.

I just had another nuts game tonight... http://tenhou.net/0/?log=2010061407g...71e95e492&tw=3 As usual, I had a really poor run of games (lost four games out of five... =_=), and, as usual, I was in a very bad position going into the fourth and final South Round (last place with only 5300 points to my name)... ...and would you believe that I pulled it back with a four game winning streak, culminating with a dealer baiman to snatch first place?! o_o;;; That's some really crazy stuff I was pulling... (You'll also see in the second bonus round that I threw away a potential daisangen, I clicked on the wrong tile by accident... >.< That actually really ticked me off...) It's these type of games that keep me playing riichi mahjong... XD Gyakuten victories like that are just surreal... O-O~ PS - Speaking of nuts... Spoiler for LOLWUT:

Ugh, for some reason I keep going between 1kyu and 1dan. Everytime I reach 1 dan, I run across a ridiculous stream of bad luck... some guy reached 8 ren chans lol. *Headdesk*
Riichi... You typically would declare riichi when you have a good chance of winning. Early game, or on a good set of waits would be best to declare riichi. You also would declare riichi when you feel nobody is gonna give you the tile (you're going for chinitsu/honitsu) and you can only rely on a tsumo anyways. Hands like tenpai for 3 ankou where you're generally aiming for tsumo are good for riichi. Late game, it may be better to keep silent if nobody else has declared riichi, otherwise people may just start playing defense and not give you anything. It's generally a foolish move to riichi against other riichis with a cheap hand. Of course, everyone does that anyways it seems. Not only are you liable to clash vs another hand, the other players will play even harder defense. Because of those annoying ura dora, you may want to riichi more if kans are made. That hand isn't too bad. You have one set already and can get set up fine once you get rid of the terminals and honors. Now crappy draws are another story.

Hah, sometimes I have a pretty bad attitude. If I'm dead last with no chance of victory, I may deliberately deal into 2nd place to screw 1st place over out of spite.
"So you're happy winning 70% of hands? Well, no 1st place for you!!"
