Fuyuhko OTOH is basically Mondo fused with Byakuya, without any of the latter's good points thus far: acting like he is the boss and keep trashtalking all the time. Well, personally I didn't really find Kuzuryuu so offensive in the first chapter. Rather than acting like he's the boss, he more or less just kept pushing people away from him, much like Togami did in the previous game's first half (which, interestingly enough, the fat Togami even vaguely references at one point). Still, I do find it interesting to see some folks who are more critical of the more tame characters like Kuzuryuu and Koizumi (the latter being almost TOO normal) over the more extreme ones like Ibuki or Nidai.

Oh, and as far as the Souda/Hagakure comparison goes..... well, at least Souda has a super talent that's actually useful.

My gripe with Kuzuryuu is mostly how "brat" his attitude is through out the 2 chapters. I am personally fine with those extreme quirks displayed by some characters.

Just found this thread. But by reading from the posts, how many here actually finished this game (sequel)? I finished mine on the week of its release. Even though there's an anime adaptation of the first game, I'm sick of discussing it. So I'll just stick around here haha.

^I finished it last year too, but I didn't understand the plot very well due to my weak knowledge of Japanese. However, I've been following the LP translations for a while (in fact, I'm in the middle of reading the tumblr ones now), so I should have a firm grip on the whole plot soon enough.

You could say Kuzuryuu is an extreme case of Tsundere

I'm done with the third case, and I can see why gecd commented it this way:
It was way too obvious right from the get go, and the investigation confirmed quickly. And I can't say the revelations really were my cup of tea. To me it is the same kind of disappointment was DR1 third case.

Well... I wasn't expecting a confirmation, but I guess I can elaborate an alternate point

Monomi's involvement is extremely fishy, to the point I suspect something even weirdier than it might be.

Chapter 3 implies that Monomi is part of the Future Foundation and they were painted as the enemy, the destroyers of the world.
However, something is amiss: I don't think they would use such name, and Monomi's means are way too far fetched for "despair" sake.
Following what we know in DR1, the world is in despair state, although I suspect Junko was lying because they just can't conveniently all turn into Monokuma worshippers because of despair. So far, Monokuma is basically the "mascot" of the SHSL Despair members, so I suspect the SHSL Despair as a whole to be heind the assault and the major change in the landscape and so on.
Which means that if the world is actually not devasted, but actually in a war ridden state, that would mean 2 organisations would be required: one representing hope and one representing despair.

Monomi's actions require more than simply a pixy entity tucking so many ressources for despair people. In fact, the timing is way too perfect: after only 6 survivors managed to get out of a mutual killing, another event occur after that, but it is highjacked by Monokuma.
By extention, it also means that Junko had to stop what Monomi was trying to do. If Monokuma was trying to pull despair from the hope of humanity, what about -cleansing- despair of humanity instead? That would actually explain why she says "our plan" at the end of chap2 IIRC.

As far as I can see, Monomi (or rather the future fundation) managed to capture members of the SHSL Despair and wanted to create a beacon of hope by directly acting against despair. Thanks to Danganronpa Zero, we learn that Junko learned the memory erasure technique from Matsuda as Ryouko.
As such, it is possible that the remnants of the future fundation got information from Matsuda's studies and gained the memory erasure skill.

In any case, it explains why Monomi is extremely frantic about hope shards, but also that people do not doubt each other, even if a culprit is obviously there. That is not only she doesn't want more casualties, but also because it would be dangerous for the students to remember their memories (That's why Monomi vaguely stated that they should move forward and don't look at the past when Monokuma prompted Monomi is hiding something from them).

This also explain why Monokuma revealed right from the bat the "traitor" and the "amnesia". I initially thought it was a ploy from Spike Chunsoft to betray players expectations, but that's in fact part of the plot: Monomi's fluffy antics weren't just for the kicks, and her actions were to fulfill a purpose, otherwise, Monokuma's interference wouldn't be necessary.
Heck, Monokuma is rather pushy as hell in SDR2 compared to DR1.
Henceforth, Monokuma/Junko is trying to sabotage Monomi's efforts in a very brutal way, and laying the cards in such fashion already jeopardize Monomi's haven setup. This might also explain why the events are mirroring DR1: assuming Junko wants to prove despair will prevail, she most likely planned to make previous SHSL despair members back to despair with the mutual killing field trip, which screams "hey, see? They may have lost their memories, but they are still despair incarnate, upupupupu" or something.

Hell, Nagito raised a giant death flag in the pologue by stating "aren't we going to kill each other?" when Monomi explained everything. That definitely stems from his despair persona, and this is probably the reason why he is so broken thorough the game.

From my reasoning, I understand why Danganronpa Zero was written, because it is a major hint for SDR2.

Not only Nagito though, most of the cast in SDR2 was a bit fuck up in a sense that most of them has rotten personality compared to DR1 cast. First time I saw them, I keep wondering whether these guys are HOPE peak's students

Spoiler for Second Case:: Kind and strong person is murdered. Bludgeoned to death. Past is used as motive. Spoiler for Third Case:: 2 deaths. Disappearing/Reappearing corpses. Culprit is very active in the chapter. There are many other that I have left out but you get the point. A reason exists for this mirroring that is explained end-game. What struck me important is the timeline: SDR2 students have to be thrown in mutual killing game after DR1 events, but that doesn't mean they were kidnapped after the malefaction and the academy shelter plan were on the move. We still don't know what happened during that malefaction event, nor "how many" the SHSL despair were, so I'm starting to suspect that it is partial or actually all of them in SDR2, especially because of Mikan's comment "I became like this because of you". Which actually means that they were bad enough to twist Mikan to that extent. Furthermore, even if they say "this Mikan doesn't exist", it is because she lost her memories from the time she spent in Kibougamine academy, therefore, it is -very- likely it is a "corruption" which is linked to the malefaction back then. Prior that, it is very likely the "Mikan we know" was the original Mikan, before her transfer to Kibougamine. Finally, Hajime's amnesia is more than suspicious, because unlike Makoto, he has to gain a proper title, due to Nagito's good luck (and I doubt they would wait for the good luck guy to graduate before selecting someone else with the lottery). If Junko is again trying broadcasting a mutual killing for her despair objective, it would make sense to have a "normal" guy to realize later on he is a damn despair guy incarnate. And why Junko is still there? She most likely decrypted Alter Ego algorythm back in DR1 and made a copy of herself as an AI. Spoiler: BTW, DR's fans' intuition is pretty amazing now that you think about it. After all, there were people who thought that something was fishy with the island after seeing the first execution. Let's see. I think I got who the traitor was while reading the end of the 4th chapter (gut's feelings, and I predicted that the traitor will be killed), and I thought that a major twist in the 4th chapter was a common knowledge (Man, Hinata managed to surprise me, though, with the last revelation). How wrong I was.

In the beginning after she told the students to collect hope shards, there is a cheery OP. After Monokuma appeared and changed her to Monomi, a second OP started alike to the first game's. I realise myself then that there are 2 organisations in this game. Spoiler for Further hints:: As per the first game, there are moles as well. You could think about that as well. Spoiler for Spoiler for Junko: But you haven't got close to what is Junko's goal in this game. She is not the sort of person that will be satisfied with hijacking the future foundation's plan. She has 2 goals which you can try to analyse. 1 should be really simple if you look at the big picture of why she wants to conduct a second murder game that mirrors the first.

Spoiler for Reason: People like him for how he sacrificed himself for the rest and his hamsters, and even felt his execution to be the saddest among all. I do too myself, until the freaking trial. Usually I have no problems with Chuuni characters, but in that trial it is horrible, especially his MTB. I died twice while figuring out what the hell is his hamsters' name.

Spoiler for chapter 4: Due to Nagito's comment, I was expecting a suicide or something, but still Gundam and Nekomaru actions are a tad similar to Sakura's, as in giving the opportunity for the rest of the group to live. That being said, I can't say it was really that noble from Gundam part, but rather a Win/Win scenario in a twisted way: if they fail to find the culprit, he would live, otherwise the rest would. That being said, it was depressing that no one figured out about Monomi that I was almost surprised that Fuyuhiko finally brought the issue regarding the Future Foundation. Frankly, Monomi antics were so painfully obvious that the "trust" they had for Monokuma's statements was borderline retarded. And for the love of... Kazuichi is definitely the idiot in the lot.
