This came down to Tsuritama and Chihayafuru for me. But as I will be voting for Chihayafuru in several other categories I wanted to to vote for Tsuritama in something. Not to mention it was an original story so I think it deserves this award.

That pretty much summed up my reasons for voting for Tsuritama in this category as well. I also think the premise was so unusual, yet so well developed, that it deserves this award.

I was a bit surprised that AKB0048 did not manage to score one nomination. It certainly has an intense fan base here, but maybe just not enough people actually watched it? I was equally surprised that Space Brothers did not make the cut for ongoing series, but shows that focus on middle-aged adults rarely do well in popularity contests like this.

Redline certainly deserved it last year, but I think Hyouka and Fate/Zero come quite close to each other... Thing is that visuals are not just about animation, there is aesthetics to consider as well. Hyouka also has those simplified char designs, which didn't look bad, but I do not think are particularly great either. It also did not have to animate anything like that river battle in Fate/Zero.

I think both are deserving of the award this year though, even if I slightly prefer Fate/Zero's visuals.

Fate/Zero has a lot of what I would call "fancy animated stills" It's more of a choice in method really.

I didn't like some of the CGI choices in Fate Zero so for me Hyouka was an easy choice. But yeah I guess it is a matter of preference.

I'm starting to think my taste in anime is become less mainstream Animesuki-stream . Last year I was able to vote in 11 out of 23 categories, but this year it'll only be 6 out of 23. I kinda wish Shana III had made it through to this stage in at least one category, but I guess it's hard to overcome Type-Moon or Kyoto Animation, based works. Anway's, here's my vote. I'm pretty sure K-ON will have the best chance (of winning its category) from amongst my picks .

Totally forgot to vote for Hotarubi no Mori E during the nomination phase and I'm really glad it made it, because it was definitely a wonderful love story and of the best work I've seen last year. Most of my votes were very easy to cast since my nominations all made it through (I guess I'm in tune with animesuki?), execept ongoing series where I hesitated between Shin Sekei Yori and Jojo. In the end, the Jojo fan in me won.

Yeah I know how you feel. I can vote in more of the categories but a lot of my picks won't really even be choices because they are the only show in each category I actually watched and liked. I almost regret not participating in the nominations though all things considered I doubt it would have changed anything. I don't really see most of my choices that aren't Fate/Zero winning either. [comment]Well, some of that was just a pain to chose from. Especially when some categories had all my choices go through XD. Still, not a bad selection this year I think. Fate/Zero being nominated 2 years in a row and have a good chance to win in the same categories again just gives me a head ache but whatever.

Then Klashikari and FlavoryFantasy came in and mentioned Horizon,now I havn't seen it and really don't have the time to marathon it before the awards end, but I did have time to listen to the OST .
So I gave it a listen and that made the decision a whole lot easier , that was clearly my favorite especially since it has so many tracks and yet I enjoy the vast majority of them.

Katou Tatsuya might not be as big a name as Kajiura,Sawano or Kanno but if he keeps putting out stuff like this he might become one ( his other soundtracks such as his Mirai NiKi or Medaka Box OST do have a few standouts but I wasn't nearly as impressed as I was with this).

I absolutely agree with what you guys wrote. It shouldn't surprise me to see anything Fate/Zero automatically be thought of as being of a higher quality, as that was a pretty great show (I loved it to pieces) ... but at the same time, I could not see how anyone could think of it as being the best that this year had to offer music-wise. Perhaps this is due to me being a Kajiura fan (and this is not her best work by even a long shot), and as someone who had heard a good chunk of the music from the Fate/franchise, so I am a bit harder to please, but even then it's hard to listen to the actual OST and think that it is the best when in reality it's closer to being decent in quality.

Now I could understand why a lot of people might have felt like F/Z had an amazing soundtrack, and that is thanks to how the sound design in the show was top notch, which as a result gave that illusion since even what might be a rather plain and boring score could pass as a amazing one, since the viewer will subconsciously associate certain pieces with the scenes that they complimented (or in this case, the opposite ...) and as such, they will go back to thinking how great that scene was and how much the music was fitting or how much it helped augment the impact of it (with F/Z, I felt it was more of the former, less of the latter).

Of course, since the category here specified to vote from what I think is the ''best'' soundtrack, and in my view Fate/Zero's OST can only be placed as above average only if the listener is familiar with the show, I am hoping to not see it win here.

Horizon wouldn't be my first choice, but it was among the year's highlights and without a doubt Katou Tatsuya had brought his A game during both seasons with a very diverse score and many memorable pieces. So my vote goes for it.

I was equally surprised that Space Brothers did not make the cut for ongoing series, but shows that focus on middle-aged adults rarely do well in popularity contests like this.

AKB0048 ... to be honest, that is one of those shows that I enjoy watching but don't pay much attention to it. It is without a doubt fun, but not one that I would place among my favorites or recommend to others (unless I know they are anime fans or want something similar to it).

I also think that in these sort of competitions, things that aired in the middle of the year isn't going to preform as well things that air near the start or end of the year (unless they have a dedicated fanbase or just leave a really strong impression ... which can be a good one or a bad one, just something to be remembered) because people are going to forget about it.[/comment]

I can some what sympathize (since as much as I liked a lot of the shows that made it to this phase I wouldn't go as far as name them the best of the year personally). I'm somewhat surprised to not see Shana III make it in even a single category, though I suppose it is just that it's time in the spot light had passed years ago and the series should've premiered far earlier.

For me, the movies still make me go sad do to not seeing letter to momo make it or even Toaru Hikuushi, even if the final picks aren't that bad. I liked them all.
