In the thread for the anime in the FMP section in the retired forums area, Gotoh and the VAs were standing with a poster declaring the new anime project. This poster featured Sousuke, Kaname, Tessa, and the LAEVATEIN, not the Arbalest.

So yeah, most likely a continuation of the novels, not a reboot.

Now excuse me while I go back to bouncing around the room.

I'd not be surprised if it turns out to be the latter.
The image they showed to accompany the announcement shows the ARX-8 Laevatein, aka the successor Arm Slave to the Arbalest, so it's unlikely that this will be a reboot.

Edit: Ninja'd.

I watched all FMP and Fumoffu because someone lent me CDs with the entire series, that was many years ago before torrents were a thing. Naturally Im going to watch this new adaptation regardless of who animates it.

Days like this can still surprise you. Looks likely that some of the oldest areas of some of the oldest anime forums (including this very one here) are about to become thriving for the first time in approx five years. It all goes to show that for those who wait good times must logically come, today they came in abundance.

That leaves us with Sunrise and Bones as likely candidates.

What strange times we live in that anime from 10 years ago will get a continuation. Fans crying for this to get a continuation has been a bigger meme longer than the whole Index III debacle.

What exciting news.

FMP is no brainless moecrap so they're not even option in this.

They made S2 and Fumoffu. It was long time ago but still. And Gato is currently works for them. And they could make 2D mechs if they want

Really, man? They did Fumoffu and Second Raid so they are far more capable (and frankly, far better executed; something about Gonzo's take felt oddly sluggish) in handling the material.

They didn't created any watchable TV series since Clannad AS, because they focused on Full Moe Anime. Also I think director of 2nd and Fummofu (don't remember his name) said he don't want work on mecha anime anymore.

Euphonium is a good series no matter what you think. Yes, they didn't worki on mecha since then but still.

Although it's definetely not KyoAni. I forgot, that they mentioned "studio from Tokyo animating new FMP". KyoAni doesn't fit this description.

Like the info said, the studio is based in Tokyo and must be able to do handdrawn mechs. So, like Sheba said, Bones or Sunrise are the strong candidates (many other studios rely on CG mechs nowadays). Although, they can still surprise us by choosing a studio that’s still new to handdrawn mecha genre.

Seems either Sunrise, Bones or Xebec(yeah i know Producer said hand draw, but who knows is it 100% hand draw, and seems there is a person works with Xebec recently discussed about new FMP)

Xebec tends to go with CG and hand drawn detailing. But can also do hand drawn mecha.
