Apparently Kono was giving some info on his twitter, and someone at acecombatskies.com translated it.

So it's starting to look like World of Tanks. Tutorial campaign, gets your feet wet, get you trained, then MP for the meat of the game - which could work very very well, afterall: more hours were spent on Mass Effect 3's multiplayer globally than singleplayer. I spent about 80 hours on sp and 260 hours on MP.

Ace Combat Infinity’s free-to-play model detailed
Infinity has a campaign mode which will be completely free of charge. However Kono says that this mode really serves as “more of a tutorial” for the online competitive multiplayer. This takes the form of 4v4 matchs competing over a killcount. Kono says that a multiplayer deathmatch mode was considered, but was not included as “it would make the game complex and discourage newcomers and novice players.” After all, the point of the free-to-play model is to welcome beginners. Multiplayer mode contains a Fuel system, which is where money comes in. Players have a limited amount of Fuel that runs down over time. It will replenish over time without charge, but players can pay for an instant refill. The game will also contain purchasable in-game items. An interview with Kino-san on their philosophy behind the design of Infinity. Looks like they've adapted the charge system that seems to be popping up in many free-to-play/mobile apps as well as the new JJBA fighting game (un-friggin-believable for a game I paid full price for). Looks like we're getting the arcade machine back, only now with digital quarters. Quote:

The game is set for release in Japan on May 20th, and May 28th in Europe. US release date will probably be with Europe's.
