Good News

-There is a rumor going on that the 360 Version will not cost money to play online as long as you have gold membership^^

This is just a rumor through, and give me sometime to find the link again

Just remember if you get the 360 version..
You will only be able to play with those who have a 360.
Once again they will be isolated and unable to play with the PS2 and PC users

Actually there is another problem.
The servers had only space for 20000 connection simultaneously,
and the game sold over 120000 (ps2 version only + pc version alot more) ^^.
So basically they were overran by the users.

What surprises me it that an expansion disc has been announced,
not sure what it exactly is, i reckon probably some new maps for the
ps2 and more offline story.
(obviously new features can be downloaded for the pc and 360 version)

And about the 360 rumors that the severs are going to be separated,
just wait and see.
Someone told me that the FFXI servers are crosslinked,
meaning 360, pc and ps2 player can play together.

EDIT:
Regarding no fee for the 360,
AFAIK (according to some german site/mangazine),
there is not need for a Live subscription (gold thing),
however you'll have to buy a hunter license
and you'll log onto sonicteam's server (not microsoft), similar to FFXI, unlike PSO XBOX

Hasnt been offically comfirmed yet. But it seems like the rumor maybe true.
Since 360 will be seperated from the PC/PS2 servers

I wonder why they didn't play the story mode first, as recommended, but instead ran online.

Yes, too many connected at the same time, and it created save issues that could be exploited, and such. Which is why they are resetting everyone at level 1 for fair play.

PS Series has always just been an online game really as of late(since Dreamcast). This would be the first they really even have an offline. Second maybe coop the story mode online^^

when i first get it i would pop on the online feature first and meet up with my friends. The offline is really just an afterthought for me.

your offline character is seperate from your online character. so you can expect a real RPG like story this time.

In the story modus (offline) you play as ethan and follows his adventure.
So it has/is a proper story, unlike PSO.

The extra modus is bacially the stages you unlocked in the story mode,
but you can play them with your custom character.
It doesn't have a storyline nor npc lurking arround in the cities.
There is nothing more to do than trying to get s ranks in each mission.

As for online modus, it takes place after the ethan's adventure
Spoiler:

Honestly they should have done it like in homeland(GCN),
enable network(online) modus only after finishing the story mode first.
Who knows maybe it will be in the oversea versions ^^

I disagree. The previous Phantasy Star Online games, especially PSO: Episode III, have a story in the offline mode. Unlike other RPGs, though, it requires you to use your brain to piece together the clues and form the story.

You can't do that.

Nope, it's definitely false. As Sides says, you don't need to upgrade to gold membership but you do have to pay the hunter's license fee. Like Microsoft were ever going to share the money they get. Article is here.

And bleh story mode. I'm buying this for the online dammit, having you go aaaall the way through the main story just to unlock online would be an absolute pain.

Sure you do, but you also have to play Ethan. And I'm a Force player who likes to play with people I already know and like playing with rather than some fixed character with a ton of cutscenes to interrupt gameplay - so it's not really teaching me anything to use in the game at all seen as we've got a hunter (and a ranger) already Ethan doesn't learn techs does he?

You can make ethan to a force by chaning his class,
btw hunters can also use wands as well.
What is funny is, that even a cast can use techiques now ^^,
if you change his/her class to forces or hunter.

Well tech are now a photon art,
you have to bind it to a wand or staff,
so without a staff or wand you cannot cast anything.
Even better without any weapon equiped you cannot fight,
in PSO you could punch and kick.

Photon art are limit to 36 per character,
and you can choose anything from cqc skills, bullts and techniques.

The offline modus does have a bad side,
a lot of stuff isn't avalible.
For example the classes are locked to lv10, no expert classes aso.
Once you finished the story modus, there is nothing to do.....

This I don't mind. Regardless of what version you get, you'd end up paying anyway. Also, considering I already pay for Live Gold and was expecting p2p, I'm not so shocked, although it would have been a nice surprise. Considering I was torn between either the PC or 360 version, with this information, I know I'm getting the 360 one now. It's pretty much a shoe-in for all of the versions to be linked if we're connecting to SEGA's servers, not Live's.

I guess you don't know that XBox PSO was also pay-to-play, even though you had XBox Live, and the servers were separate there as well.

I totally can't wait for this to come out!

I heard a rumor that once you've been playing for a while, that the monthly fee with go down a little bit. Is that true, or just a rumor? (Even though the fee's already pretty cheap.)
