Wait, I remember that X was the first mechanical creation meant to have his own free will and from such humanity, the mechanical being developed sadness upon fighting. Was it like that? There was a short OVA about exactly that called Day of Sigma where X's free will is tested to be the legit thing or just something he was programmed to be with.

I do not think the Accords are biologically incapable of walking off their biologically assigned path or that the gene editing necessarily railroads them into a single direction in life; Lacus is living proof of the absence of such cerebral hardwiring.

WW2 Nazis didn't become what they were just by dint of (purported) ethnic/genetic advantages; indoctrination played a huge part in their reinvention. It's simply that Aura - an obsessive individual with severe psychological issues that Ulen himself described as arrogant and manipulative - raised the Accords under the dogma that they were the best of the best and, because Durandal himself thought so in writing his Destiny Plan, their genes couldn't lead them to do anything wrong...or just fail. They grew up with no other moral guardrails aside from "do it for the Accord cause" and "let your genes do the talking". It's such a radically restrictive type of education that, in the end, they couldn't fathom other super-Coordinators going...biologically off-script.

Hello, started watching Seed for the first time.

Can someone tell me what the timeline and sources were for all the character names? I'd like to know where people got bizarre spellings like "Fllay" and "Mwu" from, and why/when they changed it to more reasonable spellings.

Given to editor for officially released materials (magazine, manga, poster).
CMIIW Newtype 2002-2003 listed Mu as Mwu La Flaga; on Mu case, katakana Mu for his name given emphasis for long read (more awkward to read it as Muu).

Change happened somewhere around 2011-2014, during Gundam SEED remaster process, I believe.
I'm not sure about the reason but I suspect it because of Bandai started targeting overseas audience, suddenly spelling check matters to avoid possible copyright issues.

I suppose it depends on what ethnicity they are supposed to be. Hard to get certain specifics using hiragana and katakana since they aren’t of Japanese ethnicity.

I thought this as a kid but doubly so as an adult rewatching this. Did ZAFT actually do something wrong? Gil made things harder because of his manipulations in Destiny.. Patrick Zala went geocidal because things dragged on. Under Siegel, I feel ZAFT was in the right. Halberton was the only decent commander that we know

��it’s everything I wanted. The meteor scene, yzak and dearka development, the ending. They should think of expanding it with a full series. Flesh out some characters and relationships more. Maybe more on Lacus’ mother and why she wasn’t raised with the accords. Lacus definitely took after her looks based on the brief photo. Could expand on what Kira is. There were times he did show some potential as an accord. Like the first scene he met the others and heard their thoughts. They didn’t appear to be messing with him then. Just disgusted he ntred Lacus from Orphee.

Just finished the movie......I have a lot to say (and complain, most of it I blame on the cringy eng dub and Lacoost.

This honestly felt like a parody. I can't take the movie seriously at all, fanservice aside for one, eng horrible dub (Lacoost, almost everyone was laughing in the theater whenever this was pronounced). Also, way too many things happened than what can be told in 2 hours, backstory of Agnes and the Freedom theft for one, should this be placed in here rather than a flashback or in novels.

Mecha wise....No complaint here. Mechas look good.

Plot wise. Have Orphee be more calm, and not seem so emotional. Have him be like Fate Kirei...he voices their insecurities, while not openly verbally abusive on Kira.

I just got back from seeing the movie. I did not think there would be a showing near me, but it turned out there was one, though farther than my usual theater, but only about a 20-minute drive from home.

In over 20 years, today was the first time I actually saw Fukuda and the Japanese voice actors of Kira, Lacus, and Shinn, and not just in picture, but in video form, speaking. That was really nice and an unexpected bonus.

Today was also the first time I actually got to be around people who seem to be fans of Gundam/mecha/anime. I actually got to talk to one person in the theater while also overhearing other discussions around me, especially after the movie. That was neat.

I really enjoyed the movie so much that I think I will try to go again tomorrow for the dub version, as tonight was the sub version. I heard there are new English voice actors. It's been so long since I've watched SEED in English, but let's see if I will also enjoy this one.

Oh, I've missed this so much. The movie really captured everything about that I've enjoyed about the SEED franchise, from the characters, the music, the comedy, the combat, and yes, I even enjoyed the mild fan service.

Speaking of characters, I did not expect Kira to have a meltdown like that. I get what Fukuda was talking about that they wanted to have a scene where they slapped Kira, but I would've preferred it if they had done it differently. I personally don't think that scene was needed, but it's fine if they want to have it to be more aligned with some other Gundam protagonists.

And as for Lacus, wow, I think she really was prepared to let that guy have his way with her. Good thing he had a change of mind, but had he tried to go through with it, I would've hoped for Lacus to put up more of a fight.

Seems the movie made a commercial where they are parodying one scene but rather than Kira x Lacus being focus of the dialogue it is instead Kira x Gundam Seed fans.

Yes, there is a new dub cast for the HD Remaster release of the TV series that came out on Blu-Ray within the past few years. There are a lot of comments from people online bashing this dub, but I think it's mostly a knee jerk reaction from people who wanted the old cast back. Personally I like it. The actor performances are a little better and the script is closer to the Japanese. I'm also going back tonight to see it dubbed.

Those bits are actually excerpts of a plot by Fukuda and Morosawa that was supposed to be turned into an OVA. Fukuda left that in as an acknowledgement of past efforts and a possible hook for further SEED series. He did indicate interest in making it if Bandai/Sunrise ever gave him the green light to do so.

In the novel he is initially described as behaving quite gallantly and suavely, like a bishonen prince straight out of the pages of a 1980s shojo manga, surrounded by a glittering halo. Only thing missing is the rose between his teeth and a shiny unicorn to ride on.

That veneer crumbles once Lacus starts rejecting him, because the illusion the Accords built their entire identity around is being dismantled piece by piece. Reality failed to match fantasy and, the more she pushes him away, the less he understands and accepts it. To add insult to injury, Orphee is losing the romantic war to someone he views as a pest, an incomprehensible eyesore and a biological reject.

There is (at least in the novel) a rather heavy emphasis on how the entire, never-ending fight against terrorists (and his obsession with shouldering most if not all of the burden) is slowly but surely whittling him down, to the point where it is negatively affecting his relationship with Lacus (missed dinner, etc.) and he even starts wondering whether Durandal actually had the right answer to the problem.

He is stuck with a really Sisyphean challenge where he internalizes all of his issues and, when Lacus seemingly betrays him, it just becomes too much to bear and he at long last starts spiraling. All in all, the Kira seen in the movie is one that has fought for so long that he is on the verge of giving up.

Hell, in the novel (dunno if the movie shows this), Kira and Lacus do just that at the end after the final battle - they go AWOL, almost Shiro Amada and Aina Sahalin-style. They realize they have given too much of themselves and need to heal by themselves. The world can go hang itself in the meantime.
