Epic Battle
I know I've asked for a lot of suggestions already, but I can't get enough of different anime.
So, today I'm looking for something with an epic battle scene. Can be mecha, sword fighting, guns, whatever. Something similar to the final battle in Lagann. The final battle should essentially finish up the anime, maybe an episode to tie things up if need be. Basically, the anime should eventually end up building to some big battle/big event that involves pretty much all of the series' characters. Doesn't have to start out building towards this, but eventually move in that direction. Nothing beyond 50ish episodes please. Some examples from what I've seen: TTGL (The last battle) Last Exile (Final few episodes and the Grand Stream) Yukikaze (Final battle) That's pretty much it from what I've watched (not that much yet!). |

Would it be ok to watch the Gundam without ever having seen any of the other many Gundam series? |

Yes.. some of them are related but you can watch that one without having seen any other. Unless it is a direct sequel like Gundam Seed and Gundam Destiny, most of the gundam series are separated stories with different characters and even timeline.

I know these explanations contain spoilers, but since you are asking for anime that features specific elements. It wouldn't make much sense to give you a list of names...
Black Lagoon: Second Barrage: After Sword Boy took out a scumbag and his minions in cold blood, he challenged Revy an one-on-one duel to the death. Epic enough? Bleach: Aside from some fillers, it is filled with sword duels and battles. Code Geass R2: Most battles, because the anime took place in the sense of strict scheduling as that 26 episodes weren't enough. Devil May Cry: Most battles that involve Dante are pretty serious. Since Virgil wasn't in the anime, he never went into Devil Trigger mode, which may have been disappointing to many gamers. Gundam SEED Destiny: Destiny destroys Strike Freedom. Macross Frontier: Most of the battles were pretty epic. For more suggestions, check my animelist. I have quite a lot of them on it. |

There is plenty of combat throughout its 26 episodes, including an epic final battle. Be warned though — the manga is very much better than the anime. And if you get bored of the fighting, you can always ogle the gorgeous blonde women instead. |

most epic battle that tops my list is probably the battle of Asuka vs. Eva series from The End of Evangelion
but to at leased let you know wth is going I'd suggest watching the series first (neon genesis evangelion) |

Based on animation alone, I'd say Sword of the Stranger has a very epic battle near the end. Otherwise I'll second Claymore, specifically Teresa's fights.
I found lots of Pokémon gym battles epic, but that's just me. No, I'm not trolling. Also while I'm at it, Bleach. And then they're Nanoha StrikerS, Vita vs. that thing near the end. Shakugan no Shana II had a pretty epic battle near the end (but not the very end).

other epic battles, some battles in FLCL were just epic and over the top, specially the one where Haruka uses her guitar as a gun (think it was one of the last OAV's) |
