This is why I hope on some confirmation regarding the canon status of the manga. It really feels much more complete. It connects the story to other works of Geass. It expands a lot more on the state of the world, and the reason behind Lelouch's resurrection (or what it's been hinted so far, since unlike the move, it seems C.C. didn't have a hand in it) works a lot better.

That being said, no matter how big Geass may have been, I don't think it ever did particularly well in the manga department.

The reason for that is because the manga is an adaption of the show instead of the other way around. Had Code Geass started out as a manga before the TV show, the series might had turned out better than it did in its initial TV series run.

Indeed, but consider there are Geass canon works that are manga only, like the Renya manga, Lancelot & Guren, and Oz of the Reflection. Then you have other manga like Re; which is based on events from the TV series (particularly during the Zero Requiem) but expands on them, so there's plenty of manga exclusive material.
Then you have works that are non-canon to the TV Series or the Movie Series, but are still fun to read like Knightmare of Nunnally.
And yet, none of those works, despite being part of the Geass franchise, many of which expand on world events and continue the overall story, have managed to become popular.

People now hardly even know about it, and it's a testament that Code Geass manga are unpopular if you consider none of them get scanlations.
Knightmare of Nunnally was amazing, though. It would have been great had it been animated.

Probably because Sunrise decided to make a movie instead of a TV series.
