Checking with NightWish's posts [1][2] confirms the actual figures are at: 77 posts over exactly 4hours 35mins; so it's under 100 posts , approximately 17 posts/hour which I'd say is reasonable

*is suspecious of NightWish's perfect post timing*

Yeah, I think he's going to need bucket loads to get this competition rolling. I'm trying to think of some decent ones myself but I'm having difficulty; I've never been great with riddles though I'll give this comp my best shot as it sounds great fun.

* SAMPLE RIDDLE *
Transient, noticed by few,
Above the answers I perch.
Travel there by sentinel,
To find me you must search.

Longer than you might think,
Free me with a name.
Hobbitsis knows the password,
Signposted by a game:

This key all things devours:
Birds, beasts, trees, flowers;
Gnaws iron, bites steel;
Grinds hard stones to meal;
Slays king, ruins town,
And beats high mountain down.
* SAMPLE RIDDLE *
Text in blue was added/edited by me in order to make the riddle work within the bounds of this contest. The point here being that the riddle must be specific to the forum. Taking an existing riddle and extending it is fine, but original is better.

If you can solve the riddle great; if not I'll explain it showing the sort of information needed in a submission. I'll also explain why the answer is possibly not the best sort of URL to select and why the original author's URL is inadmissible (I picked a similar one to demonstrate the point).
Oops! I forgot to mentioned it to my 1st post..I know the answer..

"KEYWORD"

Riddle 1: Perched above answers; to find, you must search.

Riddle 2: Longer than you think; and Sam and Frodo know the keyword to open the Doom Gates.

Riddle 3: Btw, in the 1st line: "This KEY..."

@Garigari-kun: Sorry to disappoint, but no. I posted the solution earlier.

In response to suggestions I'm going to vary the contest slightly and have Kairin post all the riddles and solution updates to a separate locked thread. I'll let you know which thread closer to the time.

Still need a few more riddles before we can begin; I've got quite a few now but not enough from different people. Thanks to everyone who has submitted so far.

Edit: Please remember when submitting a riddle: the answer needs to be a URL to part of the forum / site. I've had about 7 riddles that were not usable, despite being really good riddles, because they ignored the need for an animesuki based URL answer!

I'll give this a go. I've never been active before, so this might be a change... If I am correct, there hasn't been a deadline for sending in riddles yet. If so, I'll try a few.

So we're waiting till another person comes up with a riddle? Or do you come up with another riddle Nightwish? I might have missed that part.

Yeah we're still waiting. If you re-read the first post carefully you'll see that I want to have enough riddles to run 20 iterations per contest, without using more than one riddle from the same person.

Well, so I have some ideas and am still working on my riddle, but before that I want to be sure:

If my riddle is accepted and then used can I go ahead and answer it? But wouldn't it kill all the fun then?

But if I can't answer my own riddle it'd mean I'd lose a chance at solving riddles (well only 1/20 but still), that's no fun either.

So...? I prefer solving to creating riddles so I don't really know.

The submitted riddles go up against the forum as a whole but you cannot answer your own riddle (as you say that would be pointless). If your riddle is hard enough to not be solved in two weeks, you get the point instead. Yes, those submitting riddles are still at a slight disadvantage, but that's why you get a small reward (I think I said it was 25 or 50 reputation points, have to check the post) regardless of the outcome simply for having your riddle selected for the contest.

Edit:

Re-read the first post and realised I hadn't actually said what I meant. I've corrected it.

Kairin has posted another sample riddle in the riddles thread for you all to try while I collect submissions for the contest proper. I think it is a very easy one so shouldn't take you too long.
