Great episode, though everything happened a little too fast. Joshua dies after less than 20 seconds of screentime, and the Agrissa was destroyed 10 seconds after it appears for the first time.

Seems that all the Gundams (with the exception of Exia) got captured by their respective rivals huh.

Brief summary of the ep

Lotta tense build-up at the start. Even the HRL chairman seems quite tense (though wants 2 Gundams at least).

I think Graham says there's over 800 MS alltogether from Union, AEU and HRL.

This week's light relief from Louise and Saji - his weak attempts to cheer up Louise fall flat... and she demands to be cheered up with a very expensive pair of rings.

CB is lured in by some terrorists set up to attack that facility in the desert. After Lockon snipes the terrorists (and their trucks) from the back of Kyrios, they're attacked by missiles... bombs... long range cannon-fire... mobile suits... Like, frigging everything!

Exia and Virtue were in cloaked mode and come out to give some assistance - Virtue uses bazooka burst mode to attack MS that are so far away they don't show up on the monitor. And makes a LONG furrow in the desert which Lockon and Al use to escape though (heh).

But, everyone is constantly facing long distance firing, which pins them down and wears them out.

At Liu-mei's mansion, the CB crew seem tense and worried. The atmosphere is more like a wake than mission control.

At one point, Lockon comments that he doesn't even have time to eat.

After a long time has passed (over half a day), the better units start coming out - earlier, Orange-kun was unhappy that his new commander wouldn't let him go out, but she says to wait - and promises to make a man out of him (lol). Al gets attacked by Soma again and Hal comes out, but only briefly for some reason - doesn't even kill anyone though Soma got a bit surprised (she also told him her name).

As I predicted last week, Graham literally rams Dynames. This is after the Graham antagonist gets shot down easily after ignoring orders.

All the Meisters are getting worn out by now, and Orange-kun is able to dodge the shots from Virtue - enough to distract Tieria that some special MS with vibrating panels are able to surround Virtue and start attacking it.

Soma seems to have captured Al again, though Sergei warns her to be careful given what happened last time (ie Al fainting and Hal waking up).

CB's operators are increasingly worried and haven't heard a report from any of the Meisters in some time.

Exia seems to be the last one standing but up turns Ali in a special mobile armour with spider legs that pin Exia and release a plasma field and causes Setsuna a lot of pain.

Marina hears about the confrontation between the 3 powers and CB and worries about Setsuna. She then suspects that the real reason Setsuna came over the other night was because Setsuna realised the scale of the forces he was up against and thought he might die - this realisation on her side makes her even more worried.

Meanwhile, Setsuna is barely conscious and wonders if he's about to die, about all he can do is raise his arm, and it seems hopeless, but some beam attacks destroy the main part of Ali's mobile armour (he escapes by detaching from it, flying a red MS now).

A new Gundam has turned up, in an echo of the Gundam that saved Setsuna at the start of episode 1.

Forgive my ignorance, but are we supposed to recognize the pilot of "Drei" ?

I see several people going "WTFOMGBBQ", yet I really have no idea of who this is.

Anyway, great episode. Most probably the best since the series' start.

Damn this episode freaking owned, all the Gundam were basically owned and oh men wow the Thrones are here. Even though the pace was pretty fast but it was still awesome. And damn I am so excited for the next episode, can't wait to see Thrones in action .

So the ""No, no. There are ten Second-generation Gundam units planned, but there are
only five GN Drive units." in the photonovel 50years ago is really linked to the anime and the pilot of the first gundam was a woman. ^^

Man I can see the faces on the 3 blocs' pilots

"We are sooo screwed"

You know aside from the new G's, when was the last time we've seen grunt pilots perform this well?

Surprised that Patrick was performing well. Guess he needed a woman to keep a leash on him.

BTW are the HRL fielding another Tieren type? The ones escorting Soma looked like a mix between the ground and high mobility type.

It could be even worse. Assuming the majority of the best and brightest in all three bloc's armies are present in that battle, even a final loss of 50% would significantly weaken any nation's ability to defend themselves for years to come. The only consolation is if they obtain enough GN tech as a result, to hasten their recovery and rebuilding their troops.

It'd be considered a miracle if even 10% of their forces survive this fight. They'll be forced to consolidate their remaining positions which will leave them at the mercy of these new gundams.

This episode seems to set the stage though.

Anyone else catch that scene where Kyrios was generating a GN Barrier like Virtue? I thought only Virtue could do that.

I think you have you details pretty mixed up. Gundam 00P is not 50 years ago, and no one knows what the FIRST Gundam was, much less who the pilot is.

WHAT THE!?

THose realdos have a self-destruct on them!

EDIT: Just watched this episode and its quite action packed.

We also get to see the ground and artillery type Flags in this episode.

The strategy was impressive, overwhelm the gundams with long range fire to minimize losses before engaging them with their best troops.

Ali's MA reminded me of that spider-like armor from Destiny. Pretty imtimidating.

Some personal comments on the ep...

I've commented before that this series feels like "thinking man's Gundam with entertainment layed on top" - and I got the feeling again this ep - that it's patently not true that "only a Gundam can defeat a Gundam".

However, I voted this ep a 9 due to the nagging feeling that the 4 Meisters and the operators didn't really seem to be trying hard enough. Apart from some initial developments, there didn't seem to be enough planning from Sumeragi's end. And the Meisters didn't seem to be fighting for their lives - except Setsuna. It's like they'd already given up before the fight started. I would have liked a better sense of the 3 powers truly needing nearly 1000 units to succeed.

As a side comment: that I noticed, HRL deployed no new technology this ep, Union had a whole squad of souped-up Flags, and AEU (which so far had been a clear 3rd in the power stakes) brought out a squad of Enacts for the first time, had the special units with the vibrating panels, and the mobile armour that Ali had.

Well lot of things happening in this ep. And although I applaud the action and defeated gundams, I can't say this episode was anything special.

I mean: this was all pretty much expected. Gundams get defeated, new gundams show up and rescue them, and the cycle of gundam-ownage continues.

Note that those permit the pilot to detach the lower half and escape. Far more sensible.

And anyway, it was more for a surprise factor than actually doing damage. The explosion wasn't that big.

EDIT:
The battleplan against the Gundams was actually rather simple; The Gundam's weakest point is that even though the Gundams can function forever, the pilots can't. While even though the non-gundams are weaker and can't fight as long, they could fight in rotation/shifts and out-last the Gundam pilots.

All elite troops were held in reserve, while the grunts pelted and pinned the Gundams in place with enough bombs to flatten a city three times over. Not even the best trained human could focus for hours, and fatigue would get to them. The elites then move in and mop up.
