Sekiroad-Idols Sing Twice
|
I honestly had no idea this show existed until I found it by accident on VIZ's website literally thirty minutes ago. It does look like there's going to be some serious story later on, but for now it's just a harmless ham fest. Oddly enough though it looks like they're trying to justify all of the craziness because the athletic skills Madoka showcased in the first half could count as some kind of foreshadowing with her mecha maneuvers (never mind the fact that she accepts her fate to being the pilot so easily but I could do without the potential training episodes), yet ironically could make her too perfect if or when business picks up. Well it's only the first episode and I am mostly watching this for the girls but that can only carry a work so far.

After watched the first episode, there are two things that surprises me.
1. It is not your usual Xebec anime that's for sure. From not being romcom to a lot lesser fanservices to character designs are totally different from what you would expect from this studio. I think it is a good thing Xebec is trying something new for a change. 2. Main Character named Madoka. Why Madoka? Surely, they must have heard of recently highly renowned Shaft original magical girl series with main character sharing the same name. A more unique name should help make character more memorable and standout more isn’t it? Lastly, in terms of personality and capabilities, this Madoka reminds me a lot of Nanoha except for obvious difference in genre. So far the plot seems to be lighthearted despite some level of tension. Judging from the series preview, I highly doubt this series plans to turn Eva anytime soon if ever. At best, amount of seriousness should be equivalent to Last Exile: Fam. |

I really, really enjoyed the first episode. I honestly have been waiting for an anime like this, a mecha series with a cheerful, hyperactive female lead. Actualy I think the part I like the most was Madoka and Lan's interactions.
You know what this series most reminds me of, Evangelion. Hell even the color scheme of the leads follows the pattern of EVA. Seriously, Madoka is Shinji, Lan is Rei, and Muginami is Asuka. I honestly do not think this is an accident. That said, Madoka is literally the anti-Shinji. She is hyperactive, cheerful, and actively wants to help people. Lan on the other hand is a rather magnificent Rei expy. Not quite sure yet how Asuka like Muginami is. I like Madoka is looking down in the next episode since her Onee-chan yells at her to quit.

Madoka is a school idol Mary Sue almost good at everything that helps everybody. One could say she's too hot blooded. Her wearing a Jersey makes me think she has a future as a stereotypical nosy jersey wearing teacher.
Though her club activities were Chekov's gun for being a Jack of All Trades. Blocking the sword attack and proceeding with a German suplex. Given what her cousin said Madoka's mother was a robot pilot that died. Hence her reluctance to get her involved. At some point in Madoka's childhood the robot imprinted on her. Around above the hip. |

She won by a suplex? Squishy mecha aren't they? And Madoka, IMO, seems to have the same feel as Takuto of Stardriver, that "nice guy/nice babe next door" feel.
And, make no mistake, Madoka is hawt!
