Madoka sure is a lively, energetic girl ^^"
Interesting for enemy appeared just as Madoka touched the mecha.
Nice episode, will be watching this one!

I honestly had no idea this show existed until I found it by accident on VIZ's website literally thirty minutes ago. It does look like there's going to be some serious story later on, but for now it's just a harmless ham fest. Oddly enough though it looks like they're trying to justify all of the craziness because the athletic skills Madoka showcased in the first half could count as some kind of foreshadowing with her mecha maneuvers (never mind the fact that she accepts her fate to being the pilot so easily but I could do without the potential training episodes), yet ironically could make her too perfect if or when business picks up. Well it's only the first episode and I am mostly watching this for the girls but that can only carry a work so far.

Tsk... that opening song is stuck in my head. For some strange reason, I'm loving it. Now if I could only sing it properly. ^^

After watched the first episode, there are two things that surprises me.

1. It is not your usual Xebec anime that's for sure. From not being romcom to a lot lesser fanservices to character designs are totally different from what you would expect from this studio. I think it is a good thing Xebec is trying something new for a change.

2. Main Character named Madoka. Why Madoka? Surely, they must have heard of recently highly renowned Shaft original magical girl series with main character sharing the same name. A more unique name should help make character more memorable and standout more isn’t it?

Lastly, in terms of personality and capabilities, this Madoka reminds me a lot of Nanoha except for obvious difference in genre. So far the plot seems to be lighthearted despite some level of tension. Judging from the series preview, I highly doubt this series plans to turn Eva anytime soon if ever. At best, amount of seriousness should be equivalent to Last Exile: Fam.

Is Madoka a common name in Japan?

Just curious. If it's not, it is an odd choice to name your main character, unless you want people to mentally associate her and your show with Kaname Madoka/Madoka Magica.

Common name with different spellings. From as simple as "まどか" to "茉渡香" or just single letter like 円, 月, 華, 紅 etc etc

I don't know. A lot of Xebec original works tend to be mecha series (exception would be Mnemosyne) so they're at first treading at a pretty predictable path.

Don't have your answer but looking up the info on it I found this on wikipedia

Quote:
Madoka can be written using different kanji characters and can mean:
as a given name
円, "circle"
円花, "circle, flower"
窓香, "window, incense/aroma"
窓花, "window, flower"
My bet on the one used for the anime would be "円花, "circle, flower" " considering that she likes to do that circle motion and the fact that "flower" is part of the title.

Of course this is just speculation on my part,I hope someone who knows kanji could tell me f I'm on the right track

Only applies to their recent works. Go look them up on wiki and you will find out that they have done more than just romantic comedies.

I really, really enjoyed the first episode. I honestly have been waiting for an anime like this, a mecha series with a cheerful, hyperactive female lead. Actualy I think the part I like the most was Madoka and Lan's interactions.

You know what this series most reminds me of, Evangelion. Hell even the color scheme of the leads follows the pattern of EVA. Seriously, Madoka is Shinji, Lan is Rei, and Muginami is Asuka. I honestly do not think this is an accident.

That said, Madoka is literally the anti-Shinji. She is hyperactive, cheerful, and actively wants to help people. Lan on the other hand is a rather magnificent Rei expy. Not quite sure yet how Asuka like Muginami is.

I like Madoka is looking down in the next episode since her Onee-chan yells at her to quit.

It's not everyday I see mech fights where german suplexes are involved. Definitely going to continue watching this anime.

Madoka is a school idol Mary Sue almost good at everything that helps everybody. One could say she's too hot blooded. Her wearing a Jersey makes me think she has a future as a stereotypical nosy jersey wearing teacher.

Though her club activities were Chekov's gun for being a Jack of All Trades. Blocking the sword attack and proceeding with a German suplex.

Given what her cousin said Madoka's mother was a robot pilot that died. Hence her reluctance to get her involved.

At some point in Madoka's childhood the robot imprinted on her. Around above the hip.

She won by a suplex? Squishy mecha aren't they? And Madoka, IMO, seems to have the same feel as Takuto of Stardriver, that "nice guy/nice babe next door" feel.

And, make no mistake, Madoka is hawt!
