I'm pumped, I actually just finished the first season, good timing. That said, somebody mentioned plot holes, so I have a question for those who read the manga, mild spoilers.
As we know Kaiji promised to give money to Ishida Mitsuzi's wife, then Kaiji made a big mistake and lost it all. This series picks up several months later... is this ever addressed in the manga, and think it will be covered at all in this season? Thanks.

A (very short) PV is out now:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MMhBmpfoxXo Good to hear the awesome narrator again. Also, that sounds like a new piece of music in the background... One week left! |

I've always thought of Kaiji being rarther moe. Not in a plotless way, and definitely not in a cute way, but in a "I want to protect him from all these terrible things" way.

So the first episode just aired. The pacing is really quick; they covered over half a volume in a single episode. Already I'm hearing some catchy tracks, which is promising considering how good the first series's music was.
Spoiler for New Stuff/Manga Comparisons:
Also, the ending has Mikoko (Kaiji's "girlfriend") and some scenes from series 3. It almost makes you wonder if this season will get that far |

Kaiji's various facial expressions were priceless
I wasn't surprised how they went quickly on business and it was definitely the good choice regarding this arc, although I'm more concerned if they are really going to adapt the next one "completely" (that one will probably take more than 10 episodes...) Anyway, as usual, they delivered quite well the spiral Kaiji was heading to, so there is little to no worry regarding how awesome they will portray the rest.

I am not so profond of the OP....
But well the bgm sounds to be promising. And it was just like season 1. They pretty much want to really focus their attention on the gambling. There they might slow it down. Gotta love the visual aspects to support the psychological state of a character, and of course the music. KAIJIIIIIIIIIIIIII! Spoiler for Mikoko:

Great episode that does a quickie runthrough of the setting with the awesome narrator voice.
I am still befuddled how Kaiji is such a tactical and strategic genius and yet he is confined working in a convenience store and now a gambling junkie. It's like he is only truly himself when he is pushed near the brink. |

Just finished watching Episode 1.
Overall, I'm glad to see Kaiji back. Its unique animation, Kaiji screwing up like only he can, despair being delicious without being guilty, the narrator's utterly delectable voice. And that ED theme's animation sequence was just hilarious! But a couple of things are worrying me. I felt all episode something that was there in Season 1 was missing in Season 2. And then near the end of Episode 1, I realised what it was...where's the music?! Music was so critical to what made Season 1 so awesome. Season 1 had one of the most kick-arse OPs ever and a smooth ED. But its mood music throughout each episode in S1 was brilliant. Pieces like Despair, Chest, Wish - the list goes on. Not to mention that foreboding 'Next Episode' music. But for nearly all of Episode 1....there was no music! And things just didn't click into the gear I know they could. It was close, but the lack of music is something that is a letdown after Season 1 set the bar so high with the brilliant OST it used to great effect. Hopefully an OP and more in-episode music appears. The other thing that I was a bit disappointed in was how they said 'zawa-zawa'. In Season 1, the way they said it was so utterly saturated with tension and could drill right through your skull. The ones in this episode were...almost flat? It just didn't have the effect it did before. Overall, decent start. But some of the little things that make Kaiji S1 rank in the top echelon of anime I've watched are not there in S2. I hope that doesn't continue. It wouldn't prevent me from watching - no chance. But S2 would be a bit of a fall from the sheer brilliance S1 was if those finishing touches aren't there anymore.
