Recommend me some anime with above average storytelling and entertaining fights

I don't want mindless battles, but I don't want piss poor storytelling. Something with a nice medium.

I liked Tokyo Majin, and Black Lagoon. The stories seemed a little lame and forced. But I liked it a lot, so as you can see my standards aren't high at all.

Hm, I'd say Chrno Crusade is one definitely and probably Shakugan no Shana.

Of course we've all watched Cowboy Bebop, right?

Tokyo underground ...you need to get past the first two episodes before the good stories and fights...

I almost forgot...Elfen Lied is one of my favorites of this genre. Although the fights might not be exactly "entertaining," it's a good mix of storytelling and action.

Gungrave - I'd say it's similar to Black Lagoon, with not as cool characters as BL but with better plot.

Noir - slow paced and atmospheric, but also has some stunning shootouts.

I'll have to recommend my favorite series: Darker Than Black ~Kuro No Keiyakusha~......Awesome fight scenes (ableit a bit short), amazing storyline, and very emotional.

I'll also recommend Shingetsutan Tsukihime as my second favorite. Although there is only a couple fight scenes, and they're not over-the-top, I found the storyline to be really good. Also a pretty emotional series.

Fate/Stay Night is also a good anime. Made by the same company as Shingetsutan Tsukihime, which is Type-Moon. This anime has a lot more, and cooler, fight scenes. But I don't find the storyline to be as good as Tsukhime's or Darker Than Black's. Don't get me wrong though, the story is still pretty good.

By the way, you didn't mention anything about romance...All three of those anime's have romance in them, although Darker Than Black not so much.

Oh, and all three are licensed, so yeaaaah......
