Good licensed manga to purchase?

Well I recently started buying manga, since I haven't read much and always hated reading manga off my monitor.(Just doesn't feel right and all that white is blinding. )

Anyway, I'm looking for suggestions on what manga to buy that is currently licensed and released in english. I tried looking through the forum, but it's difficult to tell what people are buying or downloading. I usually like any story as long as it's good, but prefer Action, Comedy or Mystery as well as Romance or Drama as long as it's backed up by one of the previous 3.

So far I've bought:

Chrono Crusade Vol. 1 (Love the anime)
One Piece Vol. 1 (Love the anime)
Azumanga Daioh Vol. 1 (Love the anime)
Negima! Vol. 1 (Same creator as love hina which I love, so decided to give it a look.)
Love Hina Vol. 1 (Cause it ownz)

If someone could suggest some I'd much appreciate it. Also I'd prefer if the series had a decent translation.

Thanks in advance.

Let's see, some great manga's you can't afford to miss (in my opinion that is )

Love Hina : hilarious comedy/romance : 14 manga's ~ Tokyopop
Great Teacher Onizuka : cooooooooooool, 'nuff said : 25 manga's ~ Tokyopop
Akira : a classic ! scifi horror : 6 manga's ~ DarkHorse
Fushigi Yuugi : shoujo/romance/magic : one of Yuu Watase's best : 18 volumes ~ Viz

I'd add Yokohoma Kaidashi Kikou as well but it ain't available in english

if you like Negima and the Love Hina anime, read the Love Hina and A.I. Love You manga
the love hina manga makes the anime look like crap in comparison
also don't forget GTO and Tenjou Tenge (when it's released)

If you happen to like shoujo, check out Peach Girl. It's a pretty intense romance/comedy/drama manga. :D the characters are really interesting.

As for pure comedy... the funniest manga I have ever read is definately Gravitation. I'm the type who rarely ever laughs out loud, yet I was bursting out laughing at this series. :P The author has a really random/insane sense of humor (characters randomly bleed all over the place every few pages, random stabbing, one character putting a gun to another's characters head and threatening to shoot unless he apologizes to a stuffed rabbit, etc).

Action, Comedy and Romance sounds like Ranma ½, right?

And yeah, I think I should put this in this thread too... I'm a bit bored to mangas where fights are the main element. Neither I look romance/drama mangas actually... Some action wouldn't be bad at all, but maybe more like Mystery and Fantasy? I don't think it is Record of Lodoss War, 'cause isn't it pretty full of horrible fantasy cliché stuff like elves, dwarves, boring knights & mages which I have seen enough :P Not fantasy like that.

Hmm, on my shelf at the moment... slowly being completed, one volume at a time (I should stop starting so many series at once)

~ Angelic Layer
~ Battle Royale (both the manga and the novel, I prefer the novel, but the manga isn't bad either)
~ Banana Fish
~ DNAngel
~ Eerie Queerie
~ Fake
~ FLCL
~ Fruits Basket (watched the anime first, then read the manga. I prefer the manga... as Tohru drives me insane in the anime. There's some comedy, drama...)
~ Get Backers (hmm, more of an action/drama one, with comedy on the side)
~ Gravitation (as someone stated, it's hilarious... it is a laugh-out-load manga... ahh, Ryuichi and Kumagoro (his stuffed rabbit/kangaroo thing), Shuichi and his insane personality. I got it after watching the anime, which is hilarious, and I love the manga even more. There's also Kei, their gun-toting, random-Engrish saying manager, Sakano their producer who is so anxious and cautious and paranoid)
~ GTO
~ Kare Kano (His and Her Circumstances)
~ Kill Me, Kiss Me
~ Planet Ladder
~ Sailormoon (*laughs* it was my first anime, but the manga is so much better)
~ Suikoden III
~ TriGun

well the mangas i am currently following and recomend (but thats my taste):

-samurai deeper kyo: samurai action manga. don't be discouraged by the anime imo the manga is much better
-hellsing: mystery, action. also very different than the anime
-neon genesis evangelion: if you liked the anime read the manga if you didn't like the anime there is no enjoyment in reading it
-getbackers: action, drama, comedy. so far a bit different than the anime
-NOW: (thats a korean comic) a nice martial art comic that has been very well advertised by a member of this forum

other mangas i read as scanlations and are licensed right now (but i really don't know anything about how it was edited):

-rouruni kenshin: the best samurai ,action, drama manga i have ever read. a bit different than the anime in the begining and very different that the anime in the end
-onepiece: action, comedy. very funny if you have watched the anime
-naruto: ninja, action, comedy.

Aria = The prettiest manga I've ever seen.
Petshop of Horrors = Lots of fun if you don't find the cross-dressing Count D offensive (I think he's ultra cute ).

Both are mostly comedy, though one is light and the other is slightly dark.
