Also if normal people cannot see youmu then how is Sakura killing youmus? Sakura is pretty much a normal person as Mirai have mentioned that Sakura has no powers at all.
Almost no power. She has no power worth noting. She still is a member of a family and a bloodline that has power. Perhaps that is enough.

Well I won't deny that possibility but it's also very possible that this is something that has been overlooked by the writer.

That was cruel. I expected to see at least a little something, especially after they implied she has hidden assets.

Hmm. I also enjoyed ep 5, but for me it was not just Mirai that changed - it seemed everybody did a little. Almost as if the sequence involving trying to restrain Akihito's youma side allowed for everyone to let their hair down a little.

That being said, for some reason Mirai being a gardening fangirl came totally out of left field. But it felt as if that moment was the watershed were "permission was given" to drink a pleasant cup of tea and switch the focus to s.o.l. mode - which, of course, I am always for. ^^

Nevertheless, the transition, even though it was a welcome one, was "noticeable". That is, it suddenly pulled me out of the narrative of the ep and drew my attention to it. I guess that is the only part of the ep I wish was different. But perhaps the argument could be made that pacing thus far is this series' weak point?

Solid and enjoyable ep nonetheless.

Episode 2, when Akihito visited Mirai to take her to Ayaka's photo studio, there are two bags of fertilizer on Mirai's doorstep.

On Episode 5... does it mean that Mitsuki's perky breasts were a lie? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

You're going to have to explain that one.

Doesn't her furball hide on her chest?

Her furball hides where it wants. Often it doesn't hide. Anyone who can see it should already know better than to make an issue about it. I'm pretty sure her breasts are entirely real, not just caused by the critter impersonating them.

I enjoyed this episode a lot and I'm not that surprised that Yamada Naoko was involved, she's pretty good at this kind of thing.

I'm not sure how I want to reply to this:
1) It's KyoAni, so I wasn't.
2) The real question is how many are going to buy the Bluray to try pausing that.

Mixed feelings on the gag since it's the sort of thing that gets awkward when you screen the show to non-anime friends.

To be honest, I'm a bit surprised she was able to keep a straight face when it crawled out of there.

How do you know that they didn't cast her out since she has no power? She's prob considered an embarrassment since she has almost no power. I bet that godeater prob has an unpleasant side effect for using it.

Cute episode and it was nice to see Mitsuki's backstory, but what incident are they talking about with Akihito almost killing Scarfboy?

Or do they mean last week when Aki took out everyone?

He does have those scars on his back, prob given to him by Akihito in youmu form.

Episode 5 is really great, though I know most people will find it boring Seems like this episode is telling me that "eventhough we are doing fine and usually happy, deep inside we are not" I don't know I just have that feeling.

This anime always gives little, unclear hints that aren't explained directly (e.g. Sakura absorsing youmu's power adding to her weapon) and I like that about Kyoukai no Kanata.

and that little scene between Mirai and Izumi in the forest (it isn't a preview, right?).

This episode was the 'Things are calm and awesome but shit is about to hit the fan soon'
episode...

I forgot about the scars on Hiromi's back.

I thought he got them in ep 4 in his fight with all the lesser youma when he was using his barrier abilities to try and guide the Hollow Shadow out of town?

Though he certainly could have had those scars before and they certainly could have come from Akihito.

A cute episode with just enough action to provide some suspense, but also offer a lot of character development. At first I didn't really like Mitsuki's personality but after this episode I'm seeing her in a new light. It makes sense that as spirit warriors who attract youmu it's better to avoid large crowds, but it's still kind of sad.

I'm also glad that Akihito didn't angst very long and that Hiromi dragged him to the festival I'm starting to think of them as the two hentai bros; the scene where they were creeping out Mirai was both funny and...well, creepy.

I do wonder where Mirai and Mitsuki got their yukata from, since they didn't make any preparation before hand to go to the festival. Is there such as thing as a yukata rental service in Japan for people who don't have their own yukata? Also, what's significant about the envelopes people were holding through out the first part of the episode? Judging by Mitsuki's reaction to them I'm guessing they have some sort of connection to the festival, but I'm lacking the cultural background to appreciate what exactly that connection is.

That's what I thought.

Hate to be the first person to go against positive reactions to this episode, but honestly, I feel compelled to make counterarguments.

The idea that Episode 5 lacked "forced moe" relative to earlier episodes really makes me raise my eyebrows. Mirai was forced to dress up in a maid outfit, act shyly, and literally pose for the camera. How much more "forced moe" can you get?

Honestly, the blatant pandering in this episode did not sit well with me. The way this show does sex gags in particular is just so painfully blunt, landing with all the subtlety and originality of an Acme Anvil.

I will say I liked the one-on-one moments between Mirai and Mitsuki. That was genuinely good, and featured some nice character development for both. And I do like how Mirai's poverty has been presented. That's also painful to watch, but in this case, it's painful in an arguably good way. It makes me feel sorry for her, and hope that she can turn it around soon.

On the whole, I'd probably give Episode 5 a 7/10. It was Ok. It had some bits that I enjoyed, and it had some bits that annoyed me. It was probably a good time to have a slower-paced episode where characterization can breath a bit.
