Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim

This was not one I had in the betting pool this morning.

This is an interesting test for how we define "anime". As far as I can tell, Kamiyama Kenji is the only Japanese in the key staff. Sola Entertainment is involved as a producer, but it looks like Warner is handling the actual animation. I'm assuming there will be other Japanese animators involved, perhaps in key roles, but no word on that yet that I've seen.

The involvement of New Line and Philippa Boyens is certainly a plus, as is the writing team behind the most recent (and excellent) Dark Crystal series. Ralph Bakshi set a pretty high standard for animated Middle Earth (even if it stopped in the middle, literally) but it'll be interesting to see what this odd conglomeration can do.

Let's see if it can be less of a clown fiesta than Japan Sinks. Or the animated Highlander movie.

Oh, this news certainly piqued my interest.

Ah, don't remind me. Highlander: The Search for Vengeance anime was such a wasted opportunity in terms of narrative. David Abramowitz's writing is just not good enough. The art & visual was real good though.

As for the most recent Japan Sinks. Eh, it's fine. I think it received a lot more flak than it deserves.

It deserves a lot IMO, though it had its moments.

I don't see any special reason to lump the LotR project in with those examples, though.

Oh yeah, that's just top! I love both anime and Lord of the Rings. No movie industry can match the fantasy and storyline in anime either, and the lord of the rings is just my favorite, I've watched it countless times. I just can't even imagine in my head what kind of collaboration it would be and how much money it would take. I'm really looking forward to it, and I hope my beloved Orkrist looks like it does in the movie. I want to see him get his story from https://www.thetolkienforum.com/wiki/Orcrist , and maybe add some special effects.
