And this is exactly why it isn't creepy

I was facing northwest. I also live atop a hill of sorts, my area is basically bowl shapes and slopes because of the glaciers that shaped the land.

Over the distant tree line. I'd say a couple of thousand of feet. I can't say for certain, but it was certainly much lower than usual and there wasn't any bad weather when I checked it after I came back from discovering it wasn't there anymore.

I understand that airplanes with their lights can appear stationary until they move closer to you, and that would be one of the more reasonable explanations for this, but I don't think that's it.

It is possible you saw an extremely rare appearance of ball lightning but it would have required rather low humidity and a number of other conditions -- its rare after all. I'm not going to rule out anything.... but its hard to do more than speculate and assign likelihoods.

That would be even more interesting than anything alien. And yes, this is clearly a thread for fun and speculation. Seriousness can go fuck itself.

Eh...that's like... lower than cumulus cloud level...quite low

I want to say it's the ISS or a satellite but it seems rather...big.

I wonder if this is the only pic or if you have taken several shots of the object in question.

I'm more curious if it really looked like that in real life.
The spiky border and color sceme.
Phone cams often produce some weird pictures in low light environments and this looks just like what I would get if I tried to take a picture of a single light source at night (+halos ).

The Chilean Military Has No Idea What This Flying Object Is
This mysterious video certainly does depict a strange sighting.

"On the 11th of November, 2014, a Chilean Navy AS-532 Cougar helicopter equipped
with a proven and powerful Wescam MX-15HD FLIR/EO turret captured a strange object
flying across the sky. The helicopter was west of Santiago and near the ocean when the
camera operator spotted another aircraft—or something—in their airspace, flying about
4,500 above the water. Visibility was excellent laterally, but there was a cloud layer at
10,000 and some broken clouds below. It was 50 degrees out and the helicopter was
clipping along at 152mph when the sighting began."

Here's The List Of Studies The Military's Secretive UFO
Program Funded, Some Were Junk:

"More than a year after its existence became public, the details surrounding the U.S.
military’s Advanced Aviation Threat Identification Program, or AATIP, continue to be as
fascinating as they are bizarre. We now know the titles of all of the nearly 40 studies
the project funded in roughly four years of operation, as well as their authors and who
they worked for. These reports cover a far wider breadth of topics than previously
known, ranging from invisibility cloaks and warps drives, to fusion power and laser
weapons, to more general advanced physics and materials science work. Some of the
work appears to have been legitimate, but there’s at least one instance where the U.S.
government almost certainly paid for junk science.

Steven Aftergood, who leads the Federation of American Scientists’ (FAS) Project on
Government Secrecy obtained a copy of the list on Jan. 16, 2019, along with a cover
letter, in response to a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request, which you can see
below. The original five-page document is available here. The Defense Intelligence
Agency had originally put together the list at the request of the offices of the late
Republican Senator John McCain of Arizona and his ranking Democrat colleague on the
Senate Armed Services Committee, Rhode Island’s Jack Reed."

Air Force attempted to intercept UFOs over Washington
DC multiple times in 1952:

"there have been some spectacular sightings in the past that seem to fall away from
the American consciousness over time. That includes some that have involved
scrambled fighters, official reports, and credible eyewitness accounts.

Back in July of 1952, while (it’s important to note) America was gripped by both the
pop-culture phenomenon of “flying saucers” and a growing concern for Soviet
aggression, a series of unusual blips appeared on the radar screens of Washington
National Airport in the nation’s capital. These seven radar signatures were first spotted
by controller Ed Nugent, who quickly got the attention of his supervisor, Harry G.
Barnes.

“Here’s a fleet of flying saucers for you,” Nugent recalls kidding with his boss. Soon
after spotting the strange readings on their radar screens, however, the humor in
Nugent’s joke began to wain."

Air Controller Wowed By Pilot's Ability To See Mystery
Object Over Las Vegas With Night Vision:

"Around 9pm local time on Saturday, March 16th, 2019, an air ambulance
helicopter was flying roughly 15 miles west of central Last Vegas when something
odd caught his aided eye. During an exchange with an air traffic controller, the
pilot of Mercy Air 21, an Agusta 119 Koala helicopter, noted spotting an
unidentified object some distance from his position and only he was likely able to
see it in the darkness as he was wearing night vision goggles (NVGs). The
controller responded that he had nothing on radar in the area where he was
seeing the object, but when he heard the pilot could only see it through his NVGs,
he responded with amazement.

Our good friend @Aircraftspots mentioned the odd exchange on twitter and
posted the audio to Soundcloud, which you can listen to in full below. Apparently,
he was tipped off to it by fellow Twitter user and aviation aficionado @KE6ZGP.

You can hear the pilot alert the controller to spotting something over the
"Southern Hills area." This is not a topographic landmark, it is a hospital in the
southwest corner of the Las Vegas metropolitan area. He notes that the objects
appears to be at around 7,000 feet and that it could be a balloon or "something
along those lines" and that it is unlit.

The controller responds saying he doesn't see it, but that doesn't mean there isn't
something out there. The pilot then informs him that he has night vision goggles
on and that he can only see it through the goggles. The controller seems pretty
amazed with the pilot's capabilities, responding "oooh that's awesome.""
