When Mei is not observed, she is literally in a limbo state of being both dead and alive at the same time. It's only when Kouichi plays the role of the observer that Mei manifest herself as alive. Until a point where upon the trigger is indeed pulled, and Mei dies. There's an old question related to Quantum Mechanics and the Uncertainty Principle: does the moon still exist with no observer present? Perhaps, replace moon with Misaka and an analogous situation emerges. Quantum Mechanics... walks away muttering to one self. |

As of episode 2, it kinda feels like it's trying too hard to be creepy and mysterious (doesn't help the bgm and certain scenes with the dolls are as subtle as a sledgehammer). That was my main beef too with the director's other works, namely Blood-C and XxxHolic. Too bad, I suppose I was expecting something ala-Ghost Hound (at least in terms of character nuance and direction), but that might have been asking for too much. Oh, well...

In most horror movies/shows I've seen or horror books I've read that featured curses, any one who was under a "town curse" or something to that extent usually suffered from the effects of it regardless of where they actually were. *Shrugs*
