So I'm guessing either next week there will be a power up or someone will come to help them out. I guess they can also come up with a nice plan.

I did like Yui's inner conflict. It is her duty to defend her people, but someone that just casually hands over their family to a terrorist may not inspire most loyalty. It's also just ridiculous. That said, Yui really should have bodyguards of some sort.

I guess it's a conceit of the series that Yui's country is extremely peaceful and she's used to go around without protection. It still felt a bit weird that the bad guys showed up in front of her just like that.

Rena may not be a human being, but she's still family.
It would have been more meaningful if they'd done a better job of selling her as the empress.

I liked the episode. Magic robot wasn't really too exiting, but I'll take it, they kind of made it work.

As for the 3-sizes thing I think its meant more to show how innocent she is rather then be a good joke.

I'm more then happy to give the series the benefit of just using that for no good reason at all since the other option where she's either surrounded by guards or a caged palace bird has been done before enough times I'd rather no see it.

It's also really amusing having the empress of a country just walce around like any other person and aparently live in a very typical house with nothing particularly special about it. Heck it's almost like being empress is her part time job.

I like the magic robot dude. His attacks and concept look cool but the problem i have with him is that he reeks of "monster of the day" and his attacks seem pretty unaffecting? They don't really do any significant damage or anything. They just look cool. Doesn't help that we only knew this guy for 5 sentences before they fight him if they will be taking him out next episode.

I don't feel like they delved much into Yui's dilemma. Yui mostly just thinks to herself throughout the episode but the series doesn't tell us what she is thinking besides the obvious don't negotiate with terrorists.

Not sure if it's dropping frames but i'll check with the raws i guess.

I wonder if we will learn about any of the other counties if there are any besides Yui's country.

I just checked out the first two episodes of this. There's a core aspect to it that can be slightly bothersome at times, but on the whole, it's a good and entertaining watch.

For me, the show has two substantial strengths:

1. The world setting. The Enastoria Empire seems like an unusual blend of anime!Europe and a true fantasy setting. Rimguard appears to be a stand-in for modern Japan. So the world setting has a lot of familiar elements for anime, but the overall combination of them gives off a slightly different vibe. It kinda captures the imagination, and it's somewhat surprising this is all blending together very well so far.

2. The mechas look fantastic, and their action scenes are also a real treat for the eyes. I like how colorful and diverse the action is, especially in Episode 2. It's like a giant Kamen Rider fighting against flashy magical girl villains, just mecha-ized.

The characters themselves are Ok. Yui is likeable enough, and the antagonists are fun. Rena is decent for her character type. The various high-ranking governmental officials are well-wrote so far.

One thing about this show is that it's very "anime" (this being the core aspect I referred to before). There are a few criticisms I could make of the show, but they all amount to "anime being anime". For example...

Royalty walking around like a completely normal person (even in normal attire) is nothing new to anime. Yes, it's probably not realistic, but I guess it suits the medium that it's in.

One thing with this show is that the viewer is going to have to roll with its very anime way of doing things. So I intend to do my best in rolling with it, as its two main strengths (so far) make it a worthwhile watch, in my view.

The three sizes thing was a bit frustrating because they made a big deal out of it yet the actual information was hidden from the audience. It's like some half-assed fanservice where they create the perfect buildup for it and then suddenly pull their punches for the main dish; if they're going to make it a thing that's publicly known nationwide in the show, the least they can do is go all the way and make the information available to us as well.

In any case, if you want to see the cool fights without stuttering, you'll have to download ATX raw, which continue to be the only version of Regalia that doesn't drop frames.
Agreed, the stream quality is terrible and really brings down the visuals and action of this anime. If possible, it's best to watch this show using subbed TV raws, and thankfully there *is* an option for that in the usual place.

I wasn't particularly fond of the three sizes bit being done at all, but since they did do it, I'm kind of glad they didn't actually reveal the three sizes. By not releasing the three sizes, this felt more to me like simple comedy and not ecchi-fanservice. And given its surprising degree of plot relevance in Episode 2, perhaps this is for the best. I mean, it's already silly that this kind of thing become a major plot point in the show. If they made even more out of this moment, it might have made Episode 2 feel a little cheap to me. They're already aiming for a tricky balance with the overall balance between action, drama, comedy, and softer moments.

I asked this before. Where the heck is her security?! Goodness officials around Yui better wise up.

If I was part of the government I'd be against handing over a what is essentially an unknown weapon system to a group whose agenda we don't know. For all they know those people are responsible for that other country getting wiped out.

I'm pretty sure he is. His companion is probably the old guy.

Episode 3:

First half of the episode felt really strange to me especially with what happened to Rena. Maybe she has some mysterious connection with that mech.

The comedy feels like a really mixed bag so far. I think the show is trying to combine the darker elements of the plot with more lighthearted atmosphere. The food stall part felt like it was more or less a waste of time though imo.

Yeah, I also found Episode 3 kinda strange and confusing. A lot of things seemed to happen for no apparent reason. I don't fully get some of these character connections, especially ones centering around Rena.

Episode 3 was fine aside from this, but this loss of context/understanding took me out of the episode some.

Episodes 2 and 3:
So it seems that Johnny the reporter sacrificed himself to corrupt Rena-chan, huh? Then again, he and Johann are a pair of assholes especially when Johnny asked Yui about her three sizes!

On the other hand, surprised that Sara and Tia have their own Regalia. And speaking of their Regalia, seems that they represents Ama-no-Murakumo.

I think there is some implication that those who contract with Regalia stops aging or ages slowly. A bit problematic for Yui as she is a public figure.

I feel sorry for the poor bastard that will ask Yui's hand for marriage. As not only will he must have approval of big sis Rena but the entire country as well.

Some things that were very anime that I don't dare question for real:
How did they carry all those presents?
Why the hell does an Empress help out at a yakitori store? And there's still no security. This country is the weirdest anime country I've seen in a while. It's like Yui is everyone's well-endowed mascot. Not that I mind... heh.

Was it that confusing? I see it like this. Rena is one of 3 Regalias and until 12 years before she lived together with the other 2 Regalias Kei and Tia. For better or worse they agreed to work together with a lab that we saw at the beginning of the series, but things went wrong and Rena went berserk. City went boom, the group split up. Rena was picked up by Yui's family (presumably her mom considering the photo) and became Yui's big sister. Retsu is Yui's and Rena's childhood friend, nothing out of the norm. A Regalia can form a pact with a contractor to assumably obtain greater potential as a fighter and probably to have more regulated control. Maybe that's one reason Rena went berserk to such an extent 12 years ago because she was alone and more vulnerable than say Tia who had Sara.

12 years later, Kei along with Ingrid work together with a mysterious organization led by that old geezer and the crazy green haired guy. No idea what Tia and Sara were doing, but either way they met Retsu and are now under her wing. Boom, Tia+Sara meet Rena+Yui through their connection with Retsu a day or a few after they stop Rena from going berserk again which is probably what the green haired guy was after for some reason.

And now, Rena is offered to "go back home" with Tia and Sara, but she will obviously decline as Yui can't forfeit her position as the Booby Empress. I speculate that Rena will eventually join the country's political affairs in some way if the last image of the ED sequence is anything to go by where she is wearing a pretty nifty uniform I must say. Sara and Tia probably have no reason to move away either so they could just stay here and make this their new "home" in order to stay close to Rena unless the "home" they mentioned is of greater significance which could be the case.

Lastly, they keep mentioning that Yui is Rena's contractor, but I wonder if the 'contract' is fully complete, because it doesn't seem like Yui herself is aware of the fact. I can see them doing a more former contract to expand upon what a contract actually entails. Or maybe we will simply get an explanation later on.

The first half of this episode felt awkward during the battle and the music sounded like generic RPG random battle music. The series feels awkward so far, like it doesn't know where to focus and is aimlessly moving from one scene to another. I'm going to stick with it because I am interested in the characters, at least that's my opinion

Maybe the writer is a newbie? I haven't checked, but on the whole the storytelling here seems unpolished. I'll keep watching for the animation, and the characters are just cute enough to hold my interest.

the anime got canceled on 4th episode
http://regalia-anime.com/

what a shame because I love the robot design
but that makes sense because the writing is on amateur level
