I thought it was a little odd that Sakurai became so interested in Morioka just from having smacked her in the face (I would've just apologized profusely and never bring it up again). But after reading the manga the reason is explained better.

Spoiler for mild spoiler for manga:

Well Yuta intercepted Moriko. Oh boy, I expect that in the next episode they'll find out about each other's online personas.

The coincidences with them all some how knowing each other in some way is too much. It did kind of dampen my enjoyment a bit.

Not the first MMO/RL romantic comedy where the guild all know each other.

couple years back there was And You Thought There Is Never a Girl Online?, where all the members of an MMO Guild are in the same high school.

Anyone have any idea what the story in the ED sequence? Obviously it starts with Moriko logging in and playing on her computer, but then we see her take a call, then she's twirling around in her apartment while blushing furiously (I'm assuming she's happy about the call), then puts on makeup, changes clothes, and turns off her computer. Who do you think called her? Sakurai? Koiwai? Kujimoto? Or someone else entirely?

them all being in the same area doesn't dampen it as much for me since I feel 'regional' guilds tend to be more common in asia than here where guilds are just a free for all.

caught up...

wow, I felt like this is going to end for sure in 12 episodes
I thought it would be a long series like Re-Life but everything is progressing fast and decent

I laughed when Hayashi got found out by guild leader.. I think the guild leader is going to be the bro for Morioka and Sakurai
I felt bad when Morioka got the wrong day but Sakurai is doing everything well...

I almost forgot that Morioka "most likely" sold most of her clothes after quitting so she need to re-buy everything again.. lol

I have a hard time believing a woman like Morioka could become a NEET. Nice concept for an anime, but come on.

Overall, I like Moriko/Sakurai pairing.

They are more similar and compatible with each other. I'm glad to see Moriko growing somewhat more as a person too. No doubt she still loves her neet life but this week's episode explore her social life outside of the virtual world.

Isn't that also because she became a neet as a reaction on what happened at work? The show doesn't dwell on it too much, but from the looks of it she was good at her job, but something just turned her off completely. Even in the latest episode she seemed to hint at her working environment just not being that great. It seems to me that if the people at her job had been more enjoyable to work for/with, she would have been like Sakurai, working and playing games in her free time.

I think it's been strongly hinted she had some kind of workplace trauma which led her to drop out and lose confidence. We've not seen the full shape of that yet, but seems logical.

Don't you remember the stuff where Koiwai said he used to talk to her a lot of work? And that she used to cry a lot?

Besides, even though she calls herself a NEET, it's not like she is traditional NEETs. One who quits school, lives their parents, hardly ever leave their room for years. She just quit work then started playing an MMO instead of looking for work. And for what, a few months at this point?

I actually left my job last February, then stayed at home for 2 months, then traveled to Australia for 3 months and started work (in Australia) at the end of July. Technically speaking, I was a NEET at that time.

If I felt like it, instead of going to Australia I could have just stopped working and played games for 6 months instead. Or I could have taken a year off. Would be a pain to explain that in an interview though...

I think her scenario is pretty common in RL. I had plenty of jobs in the past where I was really good at it but because the coworkers or boss was a real ass and made my time there a living hell that I decided to quit and blow steam off for like a month before I start job searching again.

I have a good friend who quit her job because of all the drama between her coworkers and the terrible work environment that generated. She's currently in training to switch fields so she's not a NEET, but based on her experience I can totally see how a terrible job (and one that dragged on for 10+ years!) would have eaten someone's soul in that time.

And to people who say she (i.e. Moriko) could've quit earlier and gotten a new job, saying that is easy, but it's so much harder in practice. My friend had a plan in place, but Moriko, who never went to college, probably didn't have a whole lot of other options open to her. And even if she tried to switch jobs the question of why she quit would come up during interviews, and not knowing what kind of relationship she had with her coworkers when she quit it might be difficult to secure a good reference letter. Plus, I feel like traditional Asian society encourages the philosophy of sacrificing one's personal life for the greater good of society/country/company, so to quit and say "screw the greater good" in a conservative society takes some guts.

What you just described is more of a hikikomori. Morioka is a NEET, Not in Education, Employment, or Training.

Well true but I'm pretty sure that ArrowSmith was thinking of Hikikomori. I always put them together in my head.

Though it's not incorrect to put NEET and Hikikomori together, the two can also be used independently.
In fiction, there are some cases of Hikikomori that are employed, but hardly leave their room.

Moriko called herself an Elite NEET, to distinguish herself from other NEETs, probably because she has the funds/savings and RL experience/skills to maintain that lifestyle for an extended period of time

well, I would say that Moriko is a NEET AND a "borderline" Hikikomori for a few reasons:
_ When we talk about "NEET", it is often referred to those that can't find a job, or anything else to do despite trying. Moriko did have a job but quit on her own.
_ Moriko still goes out from time to time to get food and other stuffs
Back when WoW is at its peak, I was pretty much the same as her during summer break a.k.a: barely left my room unless it was for food
