She has no "技术" for those reasons. That's prowess, talent, skill, etc in chinese. Doesn't look they want to overshadow Hayate, so...

There were others like Nora from Zero, Klan-Klan and Milia. Though yes, Mirage is the first pilot protagonist in a canon Macross, but perhaps due to her status as a main character, she erm, inevitably suck at her job...

Correct me if I am wrong, but I do not recall her scoring even one tally against the AK. She may not be a burden, but she sure isn't very good at her job. Hayate at least had two.

Though she mustn't feel so bad, because Hikaru was known as the King of Crash, while Shinn was cherryboy. Pretty much the only competent protagonist pilot was Isamu. I am afraid the NUNs had become the Macross rendention of the Storm Trooper shooting academy.

She destroyed 3 ghosts in episode 1 and 2 (on screen) with a damaged plane, one of which was while she was holding another plane and if it wasn't for the jamming and ghosts she would have downed Bogue in episode 1.

Really, it seems more like her abilities downgraded since Hayate joined, but then Chuck and Arad aren't faring any better than her when it comes to the AK.

She might not score against the Knights recently, but she at least twice (but I think it was more time) stood between enemy missiles and Valkures. Delta aren't war pilots, but robot-riding bodyguards and Mirage is first one to be willing take bullet aimed for her charges.

Irc that that very appeal is why she quit actual military and joined team instead.

Delta members excluding Walkure were ex-military who switched under presumbly promise of better all-around working condition including pay and lodging.

Mirage switched because she was heavily influenced by her aunt Mylene, and thought she had a shot doing what she did (singing).

Though based on what Kawamori said in an interview regarding Mirage's piloting skills, I suspect Mirage only became a pilot due to family tradition, but otherwise just not very good at it, especially since she had other things in mind.

Keep in mind that there is a lag between when people vote in these polls and when they are published. Kaname didn't get that much focus in the early episodes. She might do better in the next poll.
