IMO,
I'm not really sure how to classify "Anime of 2009", like should it have started in 2009, or aired anytime in 2009? So I'm just going to go with my gut... 1) Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood 2) Cross Game 3) TIE - Higashi no Eden, Bakemonogatari 4) Kara no Kyoukai 5) Phantom Runner up! - Akikan! -- Lmao just kidding this anime was horrifyingly bad

Certainly one of my favourite (and under-appreciated) anime of 2009 was the film 'Mai Mai Shinko to Sennen no Mahou', a superbly crafted film about a group of countryside children and the delights and minor tragedies they experience. Sunao Katabuchi, the director, could go to great heights if he was given the press.
As for the rest, I would list the following: Kemono no Souja Erin Cross Game Eve no Jikan And Natsume Yuujinchou.
