In your honest opinion, what kinds of werebeasts could make decent-to-good male and/or female MCs?
Supernatural entities are also welcome as suggestions

A bit of a niche topic but I guess so long as werebeast factor is an important aspect of their character that is explored and given a lot of depth then it should work.

Here's an example of one that succeeds in grabbing people's hearts in such a short timeframe.

Bungo Stray Dogs has one of my favorite werebeasts.

Spoiler for the werebeast is...:

Bungo Stray Dogs comes in manga, anime, and novel form. I'd recommend the anime first because it's a very stylish adaptation. (Two seasons, a film, plus announced plans for a third season.)

Oh, I didn't get the picture that you were looking for recommendations.

The best one I can think of is The Wolf Children.

The part where Horo transforms into a wolf isn't much used, though.

[2009] Guin Saga
Kind of. He's human, except for his head.

[2017] Zero kara Hajimeru Mahou no Sho
It's pretty mediocre, though.
