A bit of a niche topic but I guess so long as werebeast factor is an important aspect of their character that is explored and given a lot of depth then it should work.
Here's an example of one that succeeds in grabbing people's hearts in such a short timeframe.

If you want recommendations:
[2008] Ookami to Koushinryou The part where Horo transforms into a wolf isn't much used, though. [2009] Guin Saga Kind of. He's human, except for his head. [2017] Zero kara Hajimeru Mahou no Sho It's pretty mediocre, though. Honorable mention: Shark Guy from Viewtiful Joe
