Manga Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun (Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun) is getting a TV anime adaptation.

Plot Summary

Said to occupy the third stall of the third floor girls’ bathroom in the old school building, Hanako-san grants any wish when summoned. Nene Yashiro, an occult-loving high school girl who dreams of romance, ventures into this haunted bathroom…but the Hanako-san she meets there is nothing like she imagined! Yes! That's another one I pegged for this year (along with Beastars). Now we need YanOta and Dungeon Meshi.

What's interesting is that the magazine hosting Hanako-kun, G Fantasy, is technically a shounen magazine, but has hosted many works written by women (and I think Iro Aida might be female too) with works geared to attract female readers.

I suppose this is what they mean by the breaking down of gender barriers, as magazines cater more to what people want to buy regardless of gender.

I definitely think demographic barriers are becoming less important in manga, even at dinosaurs like WSJ. But all the Gangan imprints (including online) seem to specialize in demographic-defying hybrids. And yes, G Fantasy has a lot of "shounen" that are written by women, and largely read by a female audience if the analysis is to be believed.

I haven't looked into this one, but Guardian Enzo's excitement probably means I should. xD

I've only read a few chapters, mind, but I really like it. Very witty. Gangan is one of the best imprints out there, across the board.
