Looks like there'll be an OVA next year.

Hmm, Tomoko mistreats a girl in the manga? I've actually only read the first two chapters, so it seems I haven't come across her uglier side yet. The subject of to what degree a person can change is a complicated one, but you're certainly right that a person's natural personality can be a very resilient thing. For my own part, even though during my late teens and early twenties I was rather moody, irritable, and could oftentimes be described as having a bug up my ass (kids in their early teens are given a bad rap, perhaps deservedly so, but I was actually very sweet and pleasant until the second half of age 17), I never actually tried or wanted to hurt anyone's feelings and always felt mortified whenever I accidentally did so. It's been nice learning a bit about you in this thread, by the way. One of the nice things about Watamote is that, due to the nature of the story, it provokes people to share things about themselves.
Also, I find it kind of amusing just how friendly stray or feral cats are in the world of anime. I don't think I've ever known a stray cat in real life not to bolt the second I get within twenty feet of it, but in anime stray cats are more willing to cuddle than most of the ones I've actually owned as pets. I do think Tomoko's internal conflict about whether Sena is a bicchi or a good person would make for some pretty compelling character drama. The heartwarming tale of a misanthrope that accepts a rich, popular girl for all her faults because she likes dating sims.

I had a feeling they were going to combine these two chapters into a single episode, but I was really hoping they wouldn't be that cruel. The first half was depressing enough, but the second half adds some real cruelty by having Tomoko actually make an effort for once, and yet she still fails.

The transition to the opening was so fucking creative. I'm gonna have to rewatch that again and again and again.
This episode was depressing, very depressing. No cringe moments. My computer screen was vomiting loneliness and sadness. When Tomoko was sitting in the shadows on the staircase with the light shining through the window right next to her after she discovered her little island of disorganized chairs and tables was cleared out ... that made my heart ache. A little question for you guys: What do you think Tomoko would be like when she becomes an adult? Occupation/Personality/Appearance Last edited by erhyka; 2013-09-10 at 01:56. |

Well, I posted a pic I found of an older Tomoko a few pages back, that should give you an idea to her appearance. What her personality will look like, I have no idea.

I just realized something after watching this episode, and something I didn't realize reading the manga:
While it's obvious to us that whenever she fantasizes or dreams about having friends their faces are missing, I realized that I used to do the same when I had mental images of similar situations. I also had images of people sans faces. Holy crap.

She should have joined one of the existing clubs instead of trying to make her own. Even if it had been approved, I'm pretty sure she would have gotten no members. In a way, this is better for her. It spares her an even bigger disappointment.
She had a perfect opportunity to make friends with the seat change too, but instead she saw it as a nuisance and retreated into her shell (and wished she could kill her classmates).
