From ANN: Aniplex USA Confirms Blu-Ray Disc Release for Bakemonogatari TV Anime (Updated)

Quote:
Aniplex's release of Bakemonogatari will be Blu-ray Disc only. The boxset will not be an import of the Japanese Blu-ray Disc boxset; it will instead be produced in house. There are no plans at this time to include an English dub.
For me personally, lack of a dub lessons my interest in getting this.

The lack of a dub is a little disappointing, but expected. I only hope that in exchange, the price might be a bit less daunting when the discs arrive.

I'm definitely disappointed that Aniplex didn't even try to dub this, thus Aniplex won't get my money.

The only differences between the three are that NA got a booklet (KR got ones with the original release in their respective language) and the KR release used 6 thin BD cases while the JP/NA releases use 3 thick BD cases.

That's ridiculous, putting subtitles and a new menu on there requires reauthoring anyway!

Incredibly depressing that this one will only be available to North Americans.

It was the same way with Ore-Imo, which I could take or leave, but Bakemonogatari is one of my favorite series. Not being able to get my hands on that limited edition (and possibly upcoming editions as well) is a real punch to the gut. I really hope they find some way to work around this in the future. >_<

Hope y'all enjoy it, though. It looks gorgeous, and those extras look like a great icing on the cake!

RightStuf has shipped items to international customers that were labeled as "Sold only to customers in the United States and Canada." The main restriction is refusing to ship the set to Japan. It would be worth trying to order the BD-Box if you like it.

That is my concern. How well is the translation? I would love to own this but if the translation is crappy, I will be severely, several, severely disappointed and annoyed.

It looks like Mayoi says "Mr. Araragi" in this release. Whyyyy! I little kid wouldn't use "Mr." to address a high school student. *sigh*

I think it's good they didn't try because it would have been very difficult to do. This is opinionated, but you don't find English dubs that can match the original Japanese anymore. Especially for a series like this where it was casted perfectly.

Aniplex will be uploading the first 12 episodes on Crunchy weekly (1 episode a week). Here's the listing.

Good call! Why didn't I think of that?

After watching a few scenes it looks to be good. I dislike "Ms" or "Mr" in place of an honorific but they don't do it for them all, only for "-san" it seems. And they used "tsundere" and "tundra" for that now classic bike riding joke.

I will be considering purchasing this to support Aniplex and the anime industry.

The BD-box (and associated price tag) drowned out the news about streaming. I too thought it was alright. I'm also not a fan of the Ms/Mr translation Bang Zoom tends to do, but it's still tolerable. I've already pre-ordered my copy as the commentaries really interest me.
