Yep... by that point, that person will die. The same as sleeping pill case, you need them for sleep, but if you consume it (at effective dosage i.e. 10+ pill), you'll die.

How many years of usage does one need to get to this point? Assuming one doesn't grab a bottle of pills and immediately chug down but actually regulate usage a bit.

@ Senpai - Really? Does this apply to all painkillers? I saw a scene in a game once where a guy who looked like he's strung out was asking for pain meds at the hospital. This took just a few weeks?

Irish has been taking painkillers for years now. THough he doesn't chug them and uses them rarely.

I did say before that Athena Sabre would probably have more chapters than Bouclier since it'll span for months... Though I could probably chop it up into a trilogy :3

Yes, after all, you get painkiller when you have nasty injury, and take it for several days before stop for months until you need them again.

It reminds him of what he ate when they kept running.

But still…!” The Minerva Kai hums loudly as Inami pushes Tsurugi’s katana away. The immense brute force causes her to fall back a few steps and try to regain her foothold. “Hmm… You are strong…!” “So are you, that IS really added to the impact of your attacks.” “Yeah, I feel it too.” “Focus!” “Got it!” Tsurugi blasts the Uchigane’s thrusters and swings her katana diagonally onto him, who then holds up the Akari blade upside down and parries the strike. She exerts effort onto the katana and pushes the blade away, almost causing him to lose his grip on the weapon as he boosts away, dodging a follow-up attack from her. ‘While the IS grants me faster reflexes, the Minerva is still way too nimble for conventional strikes… especially when Ina-kun is the one piloting it!’ She focuses on the Minerva Kai, watching attentively as he slowly sidesteps while holding up the Akari blade. ‘Not to mention I’m still not yet fully synchronized with the IS… feels like there’s a phantom gap between me and the IS system…’ Inami fires up the Minerva Kai’s thrusters and boosts towards her, holding up the blade as he prepares to lunge it. “Erh…!” She shifts aside and avoids the blade as he lunges it. Noticing that he’s about to swing the blade towards her, she swipes the katana towards him, blocking the oncoming blade. “Move like you always do, Tsurugi. At this rate, the IS is controlling your movements instead of you… and such limitation will hamper your combat capability.” He advices and boosts away, keeping himself within attacking range. “Limitation…?” She mumbles while looking at her IS forearms. “Keep your guard up!” He dashes towards her and prepares to slash. “Tch!” She narrowly deflects his attack as the impact causes her to lose her foothold while trying to avoid another strike. “Woah…!” The heel of her IS stumps the ground, causing her to fall backwards and crash onto the ground, blowing up a wave of dusts around her. “Oww…” She tries to get up but stops upon seeing the Minerva Kai on top of her, pointing the Akari blade at her face. Feeling defeated, she heaves a sigh. “That was… wow. It was pretty tricky handling this thing…” She remarks while looking down at her Uchigane. The comms on both units clicks on as Chifuyu contacts them via an open channel. “You two actually put on a decent fight against each other, good. Head back to the hangar, we’re—” “...Not done yet, Sensei.” Inami interrupts her. Tsurugi’s expression turns confused as she looks at him. “What are you saying, Arisawa?” “I request for a second round, Sensei.” “No can do. That will violate the enrollment rules. Each candidate is only allowed one match against the instructor.” “So you’ll judge the student based on their first run… even though it’s her first time piloting an IS?” “Yes. We have to fair when it comes to enrollment issues, this involves the student’s credibility as well.” Inami cringes with slight disappointment and looks over to Tsurugi, who’s expression seem woe. ‘Some fairness… Guess I have no choice but to run along…’ He closes his eyes for a moment, then looks back at Tsurugi. “I understand, Sensei. However, I still want another match against her.” “Arisawa-sensei…?” Tsurugi utters to him. “That won’t change the enrollment verdict for her, Arisawa.” Chifuyu bluntly remarks. “I don’t mind. Consider the rematch as our first official training session, Sensei.” “Even so, can you at least tell us why you insist on having a rematch?” “I just... have a feeling that she’ll be able to fight better this time round.” “And what makes you so sure about that?” “I know her that well, Sensei. She always uses first attempts to grasp the key foundations and utilizes them for subsequent attempts.” The comm goes silent for a moment and clicks back on. “…Very well then. Rematch granted.” __________________ "You cannot be bad at watching a movie. You cannot be bad at listening to an album. ...But you can be bad at playing a videogame, and the game will punish you and deny you access to the rest of the videogame."

Spoiler for Squick: abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, dizziness, headache, tinnitus, and nystagmus. Rarely, more severe symptoms, such as gastrointestinal bleeding, seizures, metabolic acidosis, hyperkalaemia, hypotension, bradycardia, tachycardia, atrial fibrillation, coma, hepatic dysfunction, acute renal failure, cyanosis, respiratory depression, and cardiac arrest..... And that was THE safest painkiller out there. __________________
