But anyway, why are people giving Madoka a boot. I'm actually quite happy with the way things turned out, sure in the short sight; Madoka did look stupid, but at least she made Kyouko realize that she was being used, and thus getting their chances up by causing a change of heart within Kyouko. This is what Madoka is actually capable of; a change. Had Madoka not thrown that soul gem, Chances are, The revalation about Soul gems won't come into fruition. So I think the action of Madoka actually helped out, in the long run, as what her mom said.

Seriously? You're not very logical if you don't think of the very obvious self-defense angle. If someone is planning to kill someone you love, and the only way to stop him is to kill him first, you're saying you'd have no excuse? That we should find you guilty? Or would you simply let your loved one die because *you* don't want to be guilty of killing someone?
And we've godwinned the thread! Well, I suppose I'm just surprised this didn't happen earlier, but we stumbled over using rapist, pedophile, and terrorist comparisons first. |

But onward to my opinion. I know that many people is getting Madoka alot of grief about her action but I think that she did the best thing she could have done, besides Sayaka is her best friend and she doesnt want her to go that experience again with Mami. Also nobody didnt know about that Soul Gem thing until it almost too late. QB, you are very evil But the most sad thing about this episode is, if you want to be a Mahou Shoujo, then you better say your last bye-byes or kiss your current life good bye, because you are Mahou Shoujo you have all this great power but the cost is: You are a Lich, you have to spend all of your time looking for Witches, if you cant find them, you might became one of them yourself, you will be lonely, if your Soul Gem is gone then you are good as Dead and you have to deal with other MS too.

Of course, this all depends on who you ask, some will only drink a single malt whiskey with a splash of room temperature water to release the flavor.

Great episode, but I was bit disappointed at the end. It would have been awesome in a weird way if Sayaka had actually died .. Madoka killing her best friend and all, would have been interesting to see how the anime had continued on from there but I guess not even this anime would go that far.
Also fu Sankaku. I got '' spoiled '' by going there before watching anime, saw title '' '' Stop killing our Mahou Shoujo '' and after watching the episode, I found out no one even died <.<

However, if it is Mami...I had assumed that her wish was something along the lines of "I don't want to die here." or "I don't want to die alone." Either of which were fulfilled.

Haha DDR. I dunno, the episode as the whole I guess ? The revelation was interesting indeed, got me thinking that Mami wasn't completely dead but I guess that wouldn't happen with this anime .. I saw someone posting that the Teacup was her Soulgem, and if so then yeah, she's dead for good.
And it's not like I want Sayaka dead but having someone die to make the anime even darker is what I want, and what possibly could be darker than having their best friend kill them ? Well, that definitely won't happen in the next 6 episodes though. Unrelated to above : Are there any merchandise or DVD's out yet ? I'm wondering about the sales in Madoka, to see if I can hope for a possible second season. 12 episodes doesn't just seem to be enough D:. Since it's original anime too, there's no manga to hold it back.

Sayaka's abiltiy being fast regeneration + You can't die even if your body's totally destroyed as long as your soul gem stay intact
= More visually gruesome treatments to Sayaka. I can see her final destination being a lot worse than Mami's already.

Well to steer the thread back onto the events of the actual episode...
I'm surprised more people haven't mentioned the scene where Madoka was talking to her mother. It was again, another brilliant deconstruction of the MG genre. Usually in these sorts of scenes the parent would comfort our main character by saying that everything will be OK so long as she gives it her all and she bes herself. However, in this scene, she is telling Madoka to be different, and to do something you feel may be wrong but is for their own benefit. She's telling her to be more selfish.

Holy crap, I've never seen a episode thread go off on all these wild tangents and analogies that relate to everything. Kinda like what happens during an Eva debate. Weird enough, that hasn't come up despite the fact both of them deconstructed their respective genres. I don't know, it's gotten pretty crazy and amusing; maybe I need the same drugs/lsd/w.e. the creators are taking to understand all of this.

And, in Madoka's mind, everything she's doing is right, so in order for her to be willing to do something different... As the old saying goes, the definition of insanity is trying to do the same thing over and over and over again, even if it keeps failing every time.

The cannibal example also applies and is used to show that i) You don't know how much he actually needs to eat and how much is actually just for enjoyment but we do know he has survived with only Mami's gather rate. ii) Survival does not make the character not evil because there is an intelligence to it hence con jobs are possible and the victims view point must also be factored in Using your example, if the poor mom cuts out people's kidneys for sale to feed her kids, is that evil? Now compare to your example of the poor mom stealing. What is the difference? This is one of the points that define what would be evil in most societies. Then consider that the poor mom decides that having a 2 room house just won't cut it and decides to do more jobs, getting more kidneys as "insurance" (as we discussed) so she can live in comfort in a 5 bedroom beach mansion with 3 cars. To us, that amount of "insurance" is likely lol worthy but ask her and she'll say its all necessary. This is the point of how much "insurance" is really needed that was raised. This is not known yet but we do know with Mami alone he was fine and MS do not share spaces in most cases. Some people fail to see if anything is evil because they do not place themselves in the victim's grouping as pointed out by some previous posters. Now if you were Kyoko and you received this news that was show this episode and it opens the question what else was not told, would you find Kyubei evil? |

Hmm... I just thought up of an interesting thing...
If as the "evil rabbit" said... the "bodies" doesn't mean anything, only the Soul Gem do... But in the earlier episode, when Mami died... only her body was damaged... what happened to the Soul Gem? where did it go? couldn't Mami's Soul Gem just revive her body and pop out a new head or something? BTW... I bet at the end of this series... everyone will die just like that pic of Character's spelling out Death when flipped " Spoiler for Death:
