Chika Chika Idol

Quote:
Symphonium, an CG anime studio that director Hiroshi Nishikiori (Azumanga Daioh, A Certain Magical Index) had just co-founded in July, announced on Monday that it is producing a new idol anime project titled Chika Chika Idol. Symphonium also launched the anime's official website on Monday.
Plot Summary:
Quote:
The anime will portray the lives of girls that are members of the "underground idol" group Patisserie. Underground idols, also called live idols and indie idols, are idols who focus on live performances instead of mass media exposure. The anime will be made through CG techniques that will aim to look like cel-based animation.
Staff:
Director: Hiroshi Nishikiori
Character Design: Mochiko Kagamino, Wataru Osakabe
Sound: Studio Mouse
Production: F-Sik

Actually, I'm curious about the co-founding. Since Nishikiori co-founded the studio, he likely won't be directing other series at other studios?

Not really. For example, Jun'ichi Sato was the representative director of HAL Film Maker and now TYO Animation but hew still worked for other studios and works now from time to time.

I don't have many hopes looking forward seeing to this after how much of a disappointed mess Venus Project ends up (and I'm one of the only few who had expectations at the start), however I'm interested to see how will the CG turns out (I'll predict it's going to look mediocre unfortunately).

It'll likely depend on how much work they get. They're starting small with a crowdfunded project, but the aim is fairly ambitious. On the surface, they're just making 3DCG idol anime (a cynical cash grab, right?), but the real test is whether they can successfully meld 3DCG and sakuga techniques, which is what the business side of the industry wants. There's a desire to shift away from hand-drawn animation, and one of the main stumbling blocks has been the inability to reproduce the range of motion in 3D.

As for Nishikiori, there's a chance to make some real money. However, a successful run would also secure his future as a director, guaranteeing regular work.
