Summer 2024 Suicide Squad Isekai

They've said if it's done well they might do more DC collaborations, I think this is an instance of picking a marketable team that they thought would work with an Isekai premise.

That and being the SS Tappei can induce as much suffering and death as possible without a Return by Death gimmick .

Huh, they took Ushios seiyuu to voice Harley Quinn. Not a bad choice. And overall animation and cast loks good so far. Not a fan of Suicide Squad or Isekai but may give it a try.

Joker sounded a bit like Hirakawa Daisuke at 0:15. Probably would have been a better pick than Umehara. I'll get used to it. Though there's no sign of Joker anywhere in the other world even though he said he wanted to go. Maybe he got sent elsewhere?
Or maybe he's just bait just like in the 2016 Suicide Squad movie. Upfront in the marketing but hardly showed and mattered in the actual show. Even in that last shot in the PV he's not in there. Well he's not a Suicide Squad member but still. If I had a nickel for every time Joker was shown but hardly utilized in a show, I'd have two nickels, which isn't much but it's weird it's happened twice now.

They're still trying to make black Deadshot happen.

Clayface being voiced by Lelouch and looking like Muzan is hilarious to me.

I don't recall Koyasu ever been announced for Joker here. He DID, however, voice him in Lego Batman and Suicide Squad live-action movie.

Can't be any worse than that new game right?
For real though, who in DC and WB are pushing for the Suicide Squad right now. For the past few years we've had live action movies, an animated film, the new(awful) game, and here we have the anime. There are better names in the DC roster to push than this group. I can't believe some higher up in WB thought, "Let's make Suicide Squad famous in various media! That worked for the Guardians of the Galaxy in Marvel."

And the new key visual has Joker in the center, yet he's nowhere in the isekai world. He's really just there with Harley at the beginning before they are assembled by Waller to get isekai'd. Still a waste of Joker if you ask me. Didn't expect Mori to be singing the ED song. Such a big thing she landed. Proud of her.
I'll just be watching this for Koyasu's voice for Peacemaker and FukuJun's Clayface.

It looks like Katana captures Harley and her main motivation is to complete the mission and get back with Joker.

Well, at least in this one we won't see a beloved incarnation of the most popular DC superhero die like trash. Definitely can't be worse.

The roster is also more interesting. I'll take Peacemaker over Captain Boomerang any day. He seems a bit too serious compared to the John Cena version, but hard to tell from a trailer alone.

I kind of feel bad for the show because I'm slightly less excited for this whenever I think about that awful game. Which isn't fair to the show and hopefully by the summer I can fully invest myself into it. I'm in agreement though that it's odd how the Suicide Squad is being pushed so darn hard. Now I'm kind of wishing instead they did some sort of Superman isekai story. Batman would be utterly hilarious too.

From the trailer it seems like this will be fine. Just dumb fun. Gate...but the Suicide Squad instead of the Japanese military .

Closest we have to a Batman isekai was that Batman Ninja movie from some years back, when Batman, his allies and the villains all got sent to Sengoku Japan.

But, let's not forget manga adaptations of DC properties. Those have some pretty creative premises.

Tthere was that one hilarious manga adaptation, One Operation Joker, where The Joker meets the perils of SOL single fatherhood. The Joker accidentally de-ages Batman into a baby; lost without his arch-nemesis he takes it upon himself to raise the baby into Batman once more...which is a lot harder in practice.

There's titles like Spiderman Octopus Girl, where Dr Otto Octavius ends up cohabiting the body of a Japanese middle school girl after a rushed mind transfer procedure somehow goes wrong. (Surprisingly fun and less distasteful than it sounds, plus it's from the creators of MHA Vigilantes).

Or the upcoming Kid Venom, featuring the adventures of the legendary Sakata Kintoki/Kintarou of Japanese folklore that bonded with an Alien Symbiote (This one is a bit different since 1) it is not a comedy, and 2) although made by a Japanese mangaka, Marvel is bypassing the Japanese market and targeting Western readers instead).
