I'd pretty much guessed that Atra's character would be a girl and have a crush on Mikazuki, so no surprise there, though with the princess in the mix I wouldn't be surprised if Okada's penchant for stirring up shipping wars rears its head here. Or Kudelia just ends up being Orga's love interest, but I wonder if that's too easy ?

Nice to have a voice cast and a new PV, and thinks are looking pretty good for the new Gundam. Definitely fairly excited for this .

- It all depends on the delivery. Most Gundam series take the old Gundam cliches and try to put a new spin on it. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. And most individual Gundam series have their fans and haters--let's not get into that.

I'm not a fan of the Barbatos design (Ironically I'm the one who usually likes a new take on the Gundam MS designs), and the overall feel of the story seems to me like some mishmash of Gundam Wing, Aldnoah.Zero (the uninspired parts), a little smattering of Break Blade and Code Geass. I could be dead wrong, but that's how the presentation feels like to me.

I'm just glad to have a new AU series with Kanakate Ebikawa working on it, even if he isn't the lead mecha designer like he was on 00 and AGE.

Yeah, the princess is.....well, going to be the princess-type of Gundam. (just hope she doesn't get mercilessly Marina-ed) And Atra's character is begging to be either fodder for the hero to angst over when she dies later, or just Frau Bow-ed.

He isn't wrong. There aren't many Gundams not composed by a collection of old cliches and homages. That doesn't mean they can't be good however, it just depends on how those existing assets are... erm, utilized.

The most original Gundam as of late IMO, were the two Build series, which I enjoyed the heck out of. Otherwise, 00 was pretty much the last AU I liked. I don't even want to talk about the one that immediately followed 00, its way too depressing.

I agree with you, and it was with this mindset that I engaged the catastrophe known as Age.

I must confess, I had prejudgments about Age, but despite this, I still managed to finish the entire thing. Though the experience was not a pleasant one, especially considering my worst nightmares were confirmed. It was not a show where you had to pinpoint the cliche. Oh no, it was a cliche farm!

Age was so bad in that aspect, to the point where I was able to foreshadow a ton of dialogues & plot in advance!

I agree with Obelisk ze Tormentor on this kind of thing. I think it's too easy to have self-fulfilling prophecies and set something up for failure.

Of course, nobody is ever forced to watch it either. There's always the option of holding back and then looking for impressions from people you trust.
