Hmmm, this is going to take a while to get. So while it's getting here I'll just try to imagine the best looking Gonzo anime ep ever.... it's hard, but I'll try!

Eh, looking on the staff listing most of the KAs are GL's core staff like Hisashi Mori doing the UNION sequence and most of the mecha action seemed by Amemiya's hands.

On the animation thing, while it is very nice, there is still the Gonzo-feel to it in a way. Probably in the colors layerings since some parts didn't feel as vibrant and rich in their palettes, and some non-important parts like the Nakim part. The vital parts however were nicely animated.

Haha, so while it's not completely on mark, the prediction on the moon-gattai thing did happen in a way after all. Well, a part of it at least.

Meh, I'm kinda pissed they went the "lingering emotions" and the "there's a chance to return to the old!Nia route" but I suppose that's the best way for hope.

And Rossiu did nothing noteworthy.

What an awesome episode. Starting from Simon's and Viral's speech was a great way to kick off.

It just me or after seeing Arc Gurren Lagann in this episode then comparing it to this picture

It looks like we are gonna be seeing the Arc GL maybe gattai with a bigger Gunmen, then that gattai with something even bigger than that? I'm guessing the moon ship will be the last one but I'm not sure what the 3rd Gunmen is in the pic. Man that will be crazy if its true, Gunmen piloting a Gunmen piloting a Gunmen piloting a Gunmen :P

The Moon Ship is definitely the 3rd Gurren Lagann. Look at the big head, it has 3 drill openings at the upper portion. The head of the 3rd Gurren also has 3 drills comes out of the top portion of the head in the same places. The 4th Gurren is probably something that will be reserved for the very, very end.

The references/homages are awesome in this episode. A Char's Counterattack and a Getter Robo one that I can see off the bat. ;o

Yup, I finally did get to see it - simply outrageous fun, I must say. Normally I wouldn't give this episode top marks because the epic wasn't uniform (now that there's no moon, what about the tides?) but the amount of creativity, ESPECIALLY with Arc Gurren-Lagann's pilot, brought a smile to my face.

The first half was perfect. Just perfect. The second half was cool to say the least, with enough awesome to prevent me from giving this bad marks, though we needed another GAR scene to really give it the full thumbs up. Just slightly better than fifteen in my mind, and a fine finish to the '90s arc.

I missed /a/'s fire fest but I'm sure they went berserk over the smiling moon, especially with the hillarious "CELESTIAL BODIES HATE HUMANITY" drawing and the reposts of the moon from Majora's Mask. Haha, oh wow, it must have caused an uproar.

40% next week!

Yeah, the obvious Getter Robo Ark references everywhere, including the transformation.
Now I know what the writer meant when he said they were influenced by that manga.

I guess it's more of an in-joke of Nakajima's work.

I think the Arc Gurren-Lagann's pilot being Gurren-Lagann itself is a one-time deal - reusing the same plot device ruins the effect a bit. I mean by this in that during episode three, we were all impressed when Lagann fused with Gurren but now it's no big deal, fusions are a common element to the story. Looking back on episode three, it's not as awesome as when we first saw it because the fusions are so common.

Regarding the enormus red monster from the OP, duckroll's probably right. Remember that the OP's comparisons shots are not to scale - think back, Great Gurren was around one hundred times Gurren-Lagann's size. Arc Gurren-Lagann is something like a thousand times Great Gurren's size, and Garcadia is something like a million times the size of Arc Gurren-Lagann! In the OP they're of a comparable size, and even then the giant mech simply TOWERS over them.

Suffice to say, it's going to be big. Bigger than Unicron/Getter Emperor? Gainax looks ambitious right now so I wouldn't put it past 'em.

With Simon + Viral power, they beam spam like crazy. - Kittan + co joins in the protect Arc Gurren. Their pilot skills are legendary even if its their first time in space. Yoko is piloting Diakka's ex-Gunmen. She helps Gimmy out of a pinch, Darry comments that Yoko seems like a teacher. - Arc Gurren's power back up again because people has hope. After seeing this Rosui questions himself and his action. Spiral Shield is back up again. - A huge beam energy was shot from the moon towardsArc Gurren, however GL defected it using the drill. The moon is equiped with a huge ass beam cannons. Simon left Arc Gurren's side to deal with the cannon, leaving Kittan and co to protect Arc Gurren. - There appears to be more than one beam cannon in the moon, Simon use his drill to gather their beam energy and refect them back, which totally wipe all the cannon. - Anti-Spiral changes target to Arc Gurren. They forms themselves as a cage and began electric shock Arc Gurren. And soon, another cage capture Gurren Lagann too. They both get electric shock. Spiral King loses consicous, Spiral power rock bottom. - Everything seems to turn bad again, however Leeon sees what is coming next, he began modifying his system to accept what Simon going to do next. Rosui is losing hope, Simon tell him that they will come through. Simon + Viral transform GL buttom half into a huge drill and ran GL into Arc Gurren creating a GATTAI. Arc Gurren Lagann. The electric cage was instantly broken. - Anti-Spiral cage part gather to form a huge ship and it charge towards Arc Gurren Lagann. However Arc Gurren Lagann detroy it using super punching move powerful enough to break dimension. - All the anti-spiral Ship are dealt with, Arc Gurren + Kittan + co. head towards the moon to stop it. People in the earth are watching the fight of Gurren-dan from TV. They have 5 minute to stop the moon however the moon is too big and most likely they do not have enough time. - Spiral King gain consicous, he tells everyone that Moon is actually a HUGE Gunmen and that in the middle you can activate it using Giga core drill. Simon and Viral was surprised that Spiral King is still alive. - Simon + Viral in GL left Arc Gurren and let Gimmy and Darry pilot Arc Gurren instead. GL heads towards the core of the moon. They do not have much time left, Rosui order that they will abadon the earth and escape with Arc Gurren if Simon can't complete his task in one minute. (moon will hit the earth in 3 min). Gimmy and Darry accept his order. - In the center of the moon, when Simon was about to put his Giga drill towards the core. Nia appears in his way. She refuses to step asides claiming that it is the part of a plan for absolute dispair. Viral was about to drill her himself however Spiral King stop him. He tells the crew that if Nia is killed, her body will explode like Mugen causing a chain reaction at the center of the moon destroying the control system of the moon thus make it unable to be stopped from the fall. - Nia tells Simon that his word can no longer reacher her, however Simon refused to believe it. Simon tells her that she still has his ring with her and that her true self is calling for him. The reason why she appears in front of him is because Nia is trying to communicate with Simon. Believing that Simon pushes the drill into the center of the moon which activate Moon engine to change its shape into a Gigantic ship: the one you see in ep 1. Simon was right about Nia. - Nia who let Simon activate the ship tells Simon that, the fight has not end yet and that if Anti-Spiral is serious Spiral race has no way of survival. Simon asks Nia that if he wins, will Nia comes back to him. Nia tells him that she is Anti-Spiral, and that it is almost impossible to be so. Hearing that Simon is glad, he claims that as long as its not impossible, its the same as 100% for him and that he will deffinitely help her back. Nia's eyes turn back asking Simon if its really alright for her to be with him again? Simon reassure her telling her that "Who the hell do you think I am?". Nia disappear telling Simon where she was kept. Simon cried out her name. - People in the ship are happy, Rosui quietly leave noticing that Simon was able to gain everything back. GL and Arc Gurren in transform mode comes down to earth greeted by the people. Simon looks up to the sky saying to himself "Wait for me, Nia". ------Next episode:-------- - Rosui is visitng his birth place, another shot shows he has a gun in his hand. Hoho, killing yourself? - a shot of GARlock - Simon's voice changes again. I guess another short time skip is coming up. COMMENT: - woot Nia end is coming up. I can visualize some good end now. herher if its not GAINAX we are talking about. - Next episode might be like... Rosui tries to kill himself however the priest persuade him otherwise. Something also seems to be happening underground (GL was in the village too). Hohoho
