New idol project announced. Coming Spring 2016.

Quote:
Theater company Alice in Project and animation studio Hoods Entertainment (The Qwaser of Stigmata, Fantasista Doll) are collaborating on the Gekidol project. The project will combine stage theater, anime, and idols. The project will launch in spring 2016. The project opened an official website and Twitter account, and the project also has a booth in Comic Market 89. The website reveals a teaser visual for the project, with the text "All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players. Theater + anime + idol = Gekidol.

I know people will most likely throw a fit about this for being yet another idol anime, but I actually really liked to see more mediamix projects happening, plus I found the concept of combining stage plays with idol shenanigans endearing. I'm actually quite expecting it to be a pleasant surprise as soon it'll be released.

And just when I see Hoods Entertainment as the animation studio, they didn't release anything this year so maybe they're putting some focus on this perhaps?

Well, I will give it a shot at least. Why not?

I am wondering just ho integrated all the different mediums will in fact be and how far they will take things?

I'm confused. Is this going to combine live-action and animation together? If that's so, I can see the result being pretty messy.

Haven't watched the PV yet, but to be pretty honest, it's very likely the anime will be a separate entry while the live action part will be relegated to stageplays, kind of like Venus Project when the anime episodes were aired right after the series-related reality show ends.

That girl on the far right......Zombie survival Idol?

I don't know what to make of this. I loved IM@S and Love Live, but the other Idol anime series haven't really caught my fancy.

But Natsuiro Kiseki was boring. As much as I love Sphere it was just to generic.

I second this except AKB0048 is more space opera and Natsuiro Kiseki definitely doesn't count as an idol anime

The idea of combining idol performances with literal theatrical performance is not necessarily a bad idea. In fact, it has some good potential. At the moment, it makes me think of a Broadway Musical with a strong Japanese flavor to it, which seems pretty promising to me when I think about it. The promo character designs also look good, with some very nice costume variety that speaks to the considerable range of theatrical performances that this show might explore. So that's all good!

My concern is the same as Kazu-kun's - That PV struck me as a promo for a show that mixes live-action with animation. That combination I'm a little less sure of. Other than Who Framed Roger Rabbit, I don't think I've ever seen this done well.

So yeah, I'm hoping that the anime for this is just an anime. If they have an anime running side-by-side with a live-action version, that's also fine, but I don't think I want both-in-one.

Was Natsuiro Kiseki even an idol series? To begin with, it was a Sphere anime than an idol show, and the idol aspects were only in a short story arc.

True.

But if you're an im@s and/or Love Live! fan looking for another anime that could appeal to you in much the same way... Natsuiro Kiseki isn't a bad choice, in my opinion.

And AKB0048 is certainly enough of an idol anime to count as one, in my view.

So I think Dr. Casey makes good recommendations here.
