Uh... were Jin and Kouga suppose to be childhood friends? I remember that they were not... did we get the shounen jump editor treatment? I mean, yeah, rivals are good and all, but you don't have to make it as cliche as possible.

Many scenes were anime only. From what I remember, Kouga's sister and Jin were the only childhood friends.

The episode itself is not that bad, but I wonder how it will affect the future events.

To manga readers: Post in this thread only when you've watched the episode so you don't spoil those anime-only viewers.

Watched first episode. The set up was pretty good, with a decent character interaction. I thought pacing was a bit fast to allow any chance to develop any sympathy toward any character. With Production I. G, we can also expect some good animation here and there. Will watch 2nd episode.

We'll have to see how it plays out but, while they don't have to follow the source material to the letter, I'm definitely not a fan of changing the backgrounds of principal characters like that.

I thought that was a pretty good episode. The fight scene animations are a little wonky but otherwise I enjoyed it.

Hmm, I think I was one of those a little surprised when Kouga popped up along with Konoha in Jin's childhood. That said, it's not as big a change as many people are it to be, and was likely done for compression/simplification due to the show's episode run.

Decent first episode, nice cast, good visuals although the art was a bit off nearing the end. Looks like this will be fun, can't wait to see the plot unravel.

I saw the first episode and.... well, so far it looks to be a normal "fight the monsters" anime to me. It wadnt bad actually, I kindo liked it, but ist this going to be a typical shounen?

^Honestly I have no idea how the anime is going to go...should be far from typical though, in any case.

EDIT: @ v , I've read the manga.

You say that, because you read the manga or is that your gut feeling?

That was a decent first episode. Not much to say about it. I thought for sure this was animated by Madhouse... but nope.

The first episode made a good impression on me. Makes me want to go and read the manga now. Excited for how the second episode will go now.

I quite liked the episode - not really my type of anime, but I figured I'd give it a roll. Certainly felt grittier and more down to earth (which may be down to the more 'realistic' art style) than most anime I've seen. As quickly as the plot went by, I still felt rather sorry for Jin - a strong yet sheltered child who knows very little of real life beyond beating the living daylights out of criminals in the name of 'justice' (the truly just need no thanks - Jin amounted to little more than a mercenary here).

What I will be doing, however, is skipping over this:

What. A pile. Of ****. It's quite possibly the worst OP song I've ever heard - fits about as well with the anime as a square in a round hole and sounds like a two people gibbering to each other with quirky techno going on in the background. I certainly won't be looking for the full version when it comes out, and I'm actually worried about what the ED music will sound like next week.

After watching that Jin kid fight I was WOW!
It was sad watching him cart his dead grandpa around town without realizing what really happened to him. He truly is a naive kid...
Kouga got scolded at the same time, what bad luck losing a "parent" & a friend at the same time.
Akemi really was kind hearted... but trouble just keeps following Jin.
I'm totally watching this one!

So this is the gore anime of the season? Cool.

By the way... "That thing is the devil. It won't die even if it's killed."

Heh heh, yeah...after all, only people die when they are killed.

it is not suppose be. the blood, gore and violence on a scale of one to 1 to 10 with Berserk a 10 would make Zetman(Manga) a 12.

ahhh, I wouldn't say that at all.....Unless you're strictly talking about the Berzerk anime...
