There are only two reasons for that to happen 1) lack of respect, which obviously is not the case 2) Ririka is seen by Marika as her best friend, obviously she was raised to feel safe trusting her mother with her everyday life, something really hard to acomplish with teenagers.

When Marika uses Mom she is being more formal, I think, in relation to Marika telling her mother that she's going off to do something important that more or less requires her mother's blessing.

The scene the following episode when they need to do some piracy to keep Marika's new letter valid was fun though when her mom says "have fun". Followed by Marika's "ehhhh?"

So it looks like they're following the "follow your passions and fuck anyone who tries to destroy them" theme from the first arc, with Marika likely going apeshit on that director lady for ruining the race. Fucking awesome.

No idea what beef that lady has with Hakuoh. That article indicates they broke some rules 5 years ago...

...Okay? So what? Those students are long gone. Unless Hakuoh has a reputation of breaking rules. She really looks hellbent on slaughtering the Hakuoh students from the preview. Hope a deeper motive is revealed that ties into 22-26.
