Seikaisuru Kado

Tagline: "Kado", correct answer for....

Original CG sci-fi project by Gargantia's Kazuya Murata.
It's going to be funded by Toei

Other staff includes Ako Arisaka and Koichi Noguchi.

Plot Summary
Quote:
Kojiro Shindo. Cabinet Office Director-General for Policy Planning, is at Haneda Airport for a business trip.
While the plane is on the runway, a giant structure suddenly appears out of thin air.
The plane carrying Shindo and 251 passengers is taken undamaged inside the giant structure. After everyone disembarks, a man who looks like an ordinary human being shows up. He assures those rom the plane that they're not in any danger. Shindo asks him to identify himself and explain the situation. Then the outside of the structure is displayed on a large screen, and at the same time, every passenger's cell phone starts ringing all at once. On each cell phone screen is a message from this man, to every one of Japan's citizens: "I, Yaha-kui zaShunina, hereby notify you that I am going to intervene in Japan's internal affairs."
What is this young man's goal? And will Shindo manage to become an intermediary between Japan and the Anisotorons...?

Apparently, episode 0 and 1 streamed on CR today.

Strange start. The whole mysterious cube and the way this show jumped into the story has that sci-fi vibe but I'm not really sold on the storytelling yet. Characters are mildly interesting although this one will probably be the main focus:

Going to give the show a chance but I'm not impressed yet. However, I will say that the CG was done well.

OK. That looks really promising. Liked the way they used episode 0 to establish the characters rather than just throwing them at you, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if that super plating system comes into the story at some point like that old Russian playwright's firearm.

Hmm finally something interesting. Shindou is quite curious and they have convinced me he's good at his job without just relaying it to me in exposition like so many anime. Also very intrigued by Yaha-kui and how Shindou will manage this negotiation.

The first episode grabbed my attention. The CG pretty well done and didn't call excessive attention to the production technique. Will certainly give this a few more episode.

Oh man, if only Gonzo had this kind of CG back when they did Gankutsuou, the Count's lair would've been even weirder...

So anyway, I suppose this is fun so far? With surprisingly low levels of pretentiousness, although of course the story has just started. Having two episodes to watch made them drag a little - episode 0 was okay as far as main character introductions go, but then episode 1 kept spending too much time on things whose result we already know from the trailer.

Also, that assistant girl. Why, anime? You were doing so great being down to earth and (kind of) realistic, why did you have to do this?

But I'll be tuning in next week.

Not everyone saw the trailers and even so that's no reason to skip the development. We got introduced to a lot of characters in the response to the crisis and got see everyone taking logical steps.

It's even in the story description, for pete's sake. It was probably all new to you if you went into the show completely blind, but otherwise... And in any case, they still spent way too many minutes on "hey, can we break the wall of this cube with this? no? then this one? no? then this one?" Especially after spending the entirety of episode 0 on character introduction and worldbuilding.

In any case, it wasn't that bad, but I hope the pacing will be better in the rest of the show.

Very true. I read the first line of the synopsis but then stopped because I have been down this road before and know the feeling of when I will be spoiled by an anime/film/TV show description. Good thing I did, since I read the full paragraph after watching both episodes and I just asked myself.. Why would you write all that? lol

Regardless of that, it seemed ok. Some characters being CG while others not was bothersome to look at. I'm sticking to see what happens though.

That complaint applies to practically every show with a detailed synopsis. If they skipped all this, we'd be wondering about the resilience of the cube anyways and it'd have to be info dumped in a more contrived manner.

I'm very impressed with Shindo. He's standing on the ledge 2 km up in the air and he doesn't even look fazed.

An intriguing premise, if slow first episode. And decently 3D animation.

That young female scientist. Just why? Ugh.

I guess they needed someone to get excited over the alien cube.

The eccentric genius character. Although I would prefer a different eccentricity. Please.
