The lesson of this episode:
If you really wanna level up, don't fight Abyssal ships, all you need is some tough love from Kaga. Meaning getting shot by her training planes. A lot. :P
XDDD

Besides, Akagi and Kaga's planes didn't really fly lower than the Abyssal planes during their attacks in prior episodes.
I believe it is Kaga's way of helping Fubuki, much like she does with Zuikaku.

As chaosprophet said, even the scene with Nagato later on gives that impression.

Its pretty much the same as with Zuikaku.
In both cases she didn't aknowledge their abilities, despite knowing better.

I think the planes she launched were not as far away/ as high as the 2 groups Fubuki was stopped at by Mutsuki.

- Why was there a Ooi/KTKM scene?
Who indeed.
Klashikari said earlier that it was supposed to be one-eyed.
There is indeed a red-eyed version of the Wo-Class though, it just hasn't appeared in the anime.

As for Fubuki - her old 12.7cm twin cannons actually have a pretty bad AA stat, even in the game and there is no real reason to use them over the 10 cm twin high angle ones she got equipped with now.

Its like

12.7 twin mount cm:
2 Firepower (3 for Yuudachi's upgraded version)
2 Anti Air

vs:

10 twin high angle cm:
2 Firepower
7 AA

The fact that the first half of this episode didn't end with Fubuki getting slapped or something was kind of disappointing. Almost dies like a moron and yet can only talk about "did I get the kill?" or saying "but" as if her actions were remotely justified. Seriously let that idiot sink. Mutsuki's reaction wasn't even remotely crossing the line. Fubuki ignored orders, ran around like an idiot trying to get all the kills and nearly died. I see nothing she did as being good in that situation.

Which I suppose left me enjoying the second half of the episode too much . She totally deserved to get blasted away by Akagi and Kaga .

And in other news....the commander is still missing and probably dead since they haven't found him by now .

I was expecting some sort of slap from Mutsuki but I guess getting called out by a few people did the job too. Akagi and Kaga more than made sure that Fubuki payed physically for her behavior and their test did finally give Fubuki the chance to remodel.

Not much to Fubuki's remodel. No real major change like Yudachi, especially not the change Fubuki seemed to be hoping for

You know, I don't even play the game, and yet the moment I realized the Admiral's dream involved Fubuki's marriage line, I went "what kind of kuso teitoku is this?"

i find it really weird to have normal fubuki with her Kai Ni gear. They really should have at least done the full costume change.

Fubuki spraying down the enemy planes more than likely. This are rapid fire guns. Her old guns are rated at something between 5 and 10 shells per minute, while her new guns are rated at 15 to 21 shells per minute.

I was worried that Fubuki would go down the cursed path Yura from C3-Bu took when Sonora gave her the chance to develop that kind of persistent attitude. Fortunately, Mutsuki was able to bring Fubuki to reconsider pushing herself to the brink.

So, it turns out that our Dear Admiral was so attached to Fubuki that he wants to give her the ring... and drag her several miles inland to give her the perfect proposal. Sasuga Teitoku.

It's also interesting that it was Kaga that held back when Fubuki was clearly struggling in the anti-air challenge. Shows a lot about the personalities of Kaga and Akagi. Well, it all pays off in the end. Fubuki starts shining and gets a totally bland makeover.

It feels awkward to me that he was apparently dreaming about marrying Fubuki back before he even really knew her, or even would have known much of anything about her. If it was something that had been built up to after getting to know her... well, it would still be pedobear alert, but at least she has some positive character traits that one can see that he might have come to respect and care about her over time. But... no, apparently he was into her from the start. And the fact that he's still a faceless nobody with no developed personality... I was willing to let it go even through the last episode, but with this... no. There needs to be a person involved when they start doing this kind of thing.

The Fubuki marriage thing kinda supports the reincarnation theory.
Maybe the Admiral already had married Fubuki before, but lost her in battle, thus his interest to "bring her to her past glory".

On that marriage dream scene, it makes it a little harder to tell what time it is. But I guess we can already rule out early Showa era. So it might possibly be some kind of alternate future.

I also was expecting Fubuki to get slapped, but I'm kind of glad it didn't happen since that particular approach is a bit overdone in fiction (so much so that I wouldn't be surprised if it has its own TV Tropes listing under one name or another ). Also, a fully-clothed Mutsuki wildly jumping into the hot bath to tightly embrace the just-awakened Fubuki makes for a more emotionally resonant scene for me than a conventional slap would have. I felt this scene (as well as some others in this episode) did a great job of showcasing just how important Fubuki is to Mutsuki.

While Fubuki was a bit exasperating this episode, she didn't bother me as much as she did some viewers. Honestly, I kind of like how she has a character trait that has both its good points and its bad points - That character trait I would call "highly focused and determined stubbornness". Basically, when Fubuki sets her heart on something, that's it, that's all she sees, as she has a tendency to focus on that heavily to the exclusion of everything else, even her own safety and basic well-being.

In some instances, it's definitely a bad thing, as it very nearly got her sunk in this episode from needlessly reckless actions. But on the other hand, this trait probably played a role in her successfully completing the test she was put to in the 2nd half of this episode.

Because of this character/personality trait, Fubuki is most useful and organized when she has a very specific role given to her - Be it a flagship for a small fleet, or (now) Akagi's escort ship. When given a specific role, she focuses on fulfilling it to the best of her ability, which is partly why she did a good job as a flagship in recent episodes. But lacking such a specific role, Fubuki tends to overdo it in trying to blow away the enemy all on her lonesome, lacking good co-ordination with the fleet as a whole. This character/personality trait is probably fitting given that she's supposed to be a special Destroyer type.

On the whole, this was a very good episode, though I agree with criticisms of how Fubuki's upgrade looked. Yeah, at the very least, they should have changed her uniform more.

In any event, nice to see Fubuki achieve her dream. Given that fact, and given where we now are in the anime, I think that Akagi is actually very safe now. A few episodes back, I thought that Akagi might get sunk to further the drama brought in by Episode 3, and to really challenge Fubuki in Fubuki's character arc. However, the way that Fubuki's character arc is currently unfolding, I very much doubt that Akagi gets sunk.

Akagi getting sunk within the next episode or two would result in Fubuki looking like a failure, since Fubuki's main job now appears to be to guard Akagi. I really don't see Kancolle ending on such a dark and tragic note given the overall mood of the show. Only exception might be if they have a Season 2 already in the works.

Tragedy would be for Akagi to sink, and then while Fubuki is trying to come to terms with that, Mutsuki sinks as well. Then she gets stuck with Aoba for a night battle....

Gen Urobuchi, is that you?

This idea is so dark it would honestly be slightly comedic from its over-the-topness.
