There's also the involvement of the director, Kazuya Murata, to be taken into account. He has probably as much say in the creative decisions and direction of the story as Urobuchi if not more.
I have not watched the first two episodes, but I'm worried about the length of the show. With so many characters and even two "parallel" worlds with very distinct tones, it seems like a project that would benefit from being 2-cour. Are 12(15) episodes really going to be enough? |

As for the series length, I don't really think the story will be that large and epic. It seems to be focused around Red and his experience in this strange "new" world. The elements from his world will probably come back into play at the end of the series as a means of his past following him into his present, but other than that, I don't think they intent on actually developing two entirely different settings. The main setting is Earth, and that's where the series will take place. |

Gargantia = based from word "Gargantuan" which means "gigantic; enormous; colossal" and has similar meaning of the word "Grand" in Grandia. I see what they did there. |

The Gargantia Blu-ray Box sets which were announced at ACE are confirmed to contain English Subtitles, like most "big" Bandai Visual releases these days. The first set will be released on July 26 for 16,800yen, and will contain the first 4 episodes and a bonus OVA episode (full length episode). Other goodies: - Episode 1 will have two audio commentary tracks, one from the staff and one from the cast. - There will be a special CD Book called Gargantia Logbook 1. It will be about 100 pages with a cover illustration by Hanaharu Naruko. It will contain an Audio Drama CD, a short comic drawn by Naruko (about 10 pages), and a short novel supervised by Urobuchi (about 40 pages), as well as Character design materials from the show and staff interviews. - Also included is a 224 page storyboard book containing the complete storyboards for the first episode of the show by the director Kazuya Murata. - Finally there's an Illustration Card Collection which includes 8 cards. They are illustrations which will be used as end title card for the broadcast as well as promotional stuff on the website. This is the first collection, and there will one in each of the box sets. Box Set 2 will be out on September 25, and the final box will be released on October 25. Interestingly enough, the bonus OVA episode with the first box is labelled as "episode 14", so maybe one of the other boxes will have 5 episodes instead of 4? 13 episodes in total? We'll see. |

Hmmm, looks like the episode count might be cleared up by this comment here: http://gargantia.jp/blog/?p=188
"新作OVAがⅠ・Ⅲに収録されるなど、豪華特典満載です!" So only the first and third boxes will have an OVA episode, which means the second box likely has 5 regular episodes. That would make it 5 episodes per box (including the OVAs). 13 normal episodes, 2 OVAs in total. --- http://www.gargantia.jp/ In other news, it looks like we finally have the first look at villains. Probably the early villains in the first few episodes of the show. The Lobster pirates led by the female leader Rakeeji (Wreckage?): Last edited by duckroll; 2013-04-01 at 16:31. |

Excellent first two episodes. I'm in. Liked the way they ran the story: no sneaking around hiding the truth, just figuring out how to deal with things and dealing with them. The animation was pleasing to the eye. The characters made sense.
Kanemoto Hisako was excellent in the role of Amy. And I loved the voice and approach of the young seiyuu playing the lead, Ishikawa Kaito (age 20). His first roles were last year, but this and Soda Manatsu in Red Data Girl are the only ones that will last longer than one episode.
