Well this episode literally schooled entirety of ufotable's UBW run.
Not only we get PROPER explanations of magic circuits, mana and od, but we also get actually emotional presentation of ideal conflict with beautiful OST and very strong voicework from all parties involved. The people who were worried about liner reference being removed can also breathe easily since we got that this episode. The situation is far more complex than it appeared at first. The planet itself is trying to kill all lifeforms due to being in peril. |

That ED was beautiful. Went so well with the final scene. Miyu, Illya and Kuro share a precious bond.
Kuro vs Angelica was also fun and Illya pulling that Zabaniya was nice. It fooled me for a second there... the OST also continues to be top notch. Since the 3rei anime was announced, the "I'll save both Miyu and the world!" line is what I was looking forward to the most~ They did it perfectly. |

Also, the episode basically defined a Liner - again, in a masterfully concise manner, though it did not identify the unknown particles as Grain, and human life that survive Grain/a Post Mana world as Liners. Basically, Angelica's explanation of very basic Nasuverse concepts is among one of the most organically written and well integrated piece of crucial exposition I've seen in anime. That being said, it's a shame the explanation never ran into the topics of Akasha (though Gaia is defined, but not named), the Greater and Lesser Grails and True Magic, but this is probably not the place or time for such a discussion. The Grail as a general concept was explained in 2wei though. I presume that Tanaka's presence as well as Illya's decision to save both Miyu and the World will probably necessitate that further bit of exposition down the line, but the season is almost over. |

Episode 9
So the world is running out of magic and some weird particle is taking its place which is killing everything. The explanation of mana and these circuit thingies was pretty neat. The Ainsworths want to use the Grail to wish for the humans to be able to survive this kind of world. They can't use a magic using thing to create more magic so that's what they've decided. And Illya is forced to decide – she either saves Miyu and lets everyone die or lets Miyu die and save everyone. Poor loli has to make such a big decision. And Kuro shows up basically saying "I couldn't care less about this world so f*** it. I'm taking Miyu home." Angelica was caught off guard by Kuro's arrival but Kuro couldn't do much. Angelica was probably wary of her because of UBW. Had Kuro unleashed UBW she could have stood a better chance against Angelica's Gate of Babylon. Speaking of that gate, just what has Gilgamesh stored in there? Angelica just pulled out a big ass wing like thing which burns away everything. What the neko was that thing? What was Gilgamesh anyway? And I really fell for that trick by Illya when she saved Kuro. I really thought that Illya was hit and then she will be healed later on with Gil or Bazette coming for backup to save her or something (I was kinda expecting Gil or Bazette to show up at some point because Kuro was here so they should be nearby too. Unless they're on a different mission here). But then it turned out that Illya was the Fate/Zero Hassan assassin so naturally she has that decoy ability. Speaking of assassin, just where did Illya hide that card? It makes zero sense. Illya, after having her mind sent to the stuffed animal, had her clothes changed by Erica and/or Angelica. Having her clothes changed means that if she had the card hidden under her clothes it would have been revealed or if the card was in her clothes she would have lost it. Unless she hid the card in her panties, it really doesn't make sense how she got the card. She could have swiped it from her clothes in Erica's room but they didn't show that even though they show small things like Tanaka peeking at Kuro and Illya kissing on the roof. But whatever. At least we got to see cute assassin Illya. Now to wait for berserker Illya. Darius turns out to be an even more terrible person. Stop spanking that loli's butt dammit! He should be killed by Gilgamesh's Ea. That would teach him a lesson. Kuro is doing what Emiya Kiritsugu did. Kiritsugu wanted to save everyone but couldn't and then came to realize that you can't save everyone. In this Fate/world, Kiritsugu decided to not try and save everyone since it would probably only end up in despair and he goes for the option of saving his daughter, Illya. Kuro has decided to do the same here and isn't planning on saving everyone but is only going to save Miyu. Illya on the other hand, is Kiritsugu's daughter so she has that "I'll save everyone" thing in her which is why she is planning on saving everyone. She doesn't know how she'll accomplish that, but that's what she has decided. Kuro will obviously support Illya's decision and it works for Miyu too so why not. Bazette will also support Illya and Gil obviously only cares about getting himself back. Now we'll have to see what role Tanaka and those behind her play. They are against the Ainsworths and whatever they're doing so obviously they have an alternate plan to save the world and/or its inhabitants. Based on this explanation, Tanaka might seem like the bad guy and she can't defend her stance because she doesn't remember anything other than "kill the Ainsworths" just like Eren only knew "kill the titans". |

From Gil's perceptive most likely what the Ainsworth are doing is ridiculous. While fewer humans are the better for him he won't go far in biologically changing the entire race. The Ainsworth's plan doesn't really address the main issue which is the Grain. Changing humanity seems to be an arbitrary shot in the dark.
Darius seems to be more concerned in making his own legend. Probably wants the Throne to recognize him as a hero. But here is the thing he is a Counterfeiter according to Tanaka. The World ,Gaia or Alaya or both, could see him as a threat. |

I'd like to see a scene with Angelica and Darius. Angelica seems like a reasonable person, she genuinely desires the world's salvation and is going with a plan that could accomplish it.
But what is her actual position? Despite that facade of reason, she doesn't seem to be critical of Darius who is obviously crazy and only treats saving the world as an auxiliary objective. Also, mage families are only supposed to have one proper practicioner at a time, so where did Angelica and Beatrice even come from? Apprentices? Homunculi?

I have to admit, the reunion between Illya and Miyu was quite touching.
The Shirou cliffhanger too..now I'm excited for next week's episode even more. Plus, we also got the revelation with Julian's appearance this week.

Of course it had to end on that line . A perfect moment to go with. Shirou has arrived on the scene and is ready to go .
This should be a lot of fun. Although I can't complain about the episode itself. The reunion with Illya and Miyu was nice, as was her stepping in to stop Miyu from going back. It's true the situation is dire right now, but nothing good would come from going back. All they can do is respond to the situation at hand. Although certainly the enemy here is getting more insane by the minute. I mean that black goop bringing forth a small army of heroic spirits? Though likely ones not particularly remembered, much like the disposal phantasms we saw. Still, the numbers and strength of these individuals makes them a real threat. This isn't an army of easily disposed of enemies that could overwhelm with numbers....this is an army of powerful enemies. Plus kind of entertaining to see Illya just stab the heck out of Darius(sort of) with Rule Breaker. Though it did lead to the loss of the Caster card...that's too bad. Caster Illya....you will be missed.
