Well, to explain my reasoning for the elf-ear thing...

Irene has elf ears. This makes her easy to remember and sets her apart from Noel and Sophia. When we see those elf-ears, we think Irene. It's an extra item to tag with her angular face, which reinforces memory of her. It might also imply, symbolically, certain things about her personality. (Maybe that she's inscrutable, introspective, pragmatic, hardened and aloof? Basically an "elf"? *shrugs*) Whatever the case, it sure makes us think about why she has elf ears and makes us attach some sort symbolism to her, which is enough to get the audience interested in her.
from 6/12/07...
****

I just discovered something about Irene in the manga, which is different from the anime. It could be minor...

In the Marked for Death arc (manga), Irene actually has NORMAL EARS ( as evidence from pages 10 -16) , especially when she first walks into the town. As the battle wears on with Teresa, it's like she "grew" elf ears.

Unlike Ophelia who is introduced in both versions with elf ears...I don't have a question here...just adding some info to make up an answer.

But here's A question...

why are Claymore's in the # 4 position CRAZY or mentally unstable like Ophelia and
Spoiler for the "other" mental # 4:
. is the # 4 designation a cursed #?

"4" is a bad luck number in Japanese culture, is it?

And yea Irene's ears were normal in the first chapter of the Marked for Death arc but became more elf-like in the next chapter.

yes, it is. It can be read as "shi", which is also the reading for the kanji meaning "death" ...

This anime is surprisingly good. A strange mix of evangelion, berserk and... sailor moon
How good is the manga after the 26th episode ?

Am I the only one having a hard time recognizing faces and remembering names ?

I didn't know that...no wonder ALL # 4's are nuts, sociopaths or crazy.

Question from an anime only watcher. How much has the anime deviated from the manga, and around what chapter does the latest anime episode correspond to? I've been wanting to get into the manga for a while now since the series is almost over.

The anime starts to deviate from moment Raki met Priscillia.

That's the observation I posted recently here. In the manga, when she walks in to meet Noel et al, she has NORMAL EARS (Marked for Death arc page 16) but as the battle progresses with Teresa, she begins "growing" the ELF EARS. Unlike the anime, she already has the pointy elf ears.

if you want to get into the manga you should just read from the beginning, there are other details that have been left out all the way, some are more minor, but interesting for any fan, others really important for the story.

The ears of Galatea and Helen keep changing as well. Helen has real elf ears at one point. (see earlier post)

That's a good observation...I posted my own "new findings" about Irene's "normal ears" after re-reading the scenes where Teresa died. It's either Yagi-sensei was tired from sketching OR he's actually trying to tell us something...

Well, this Thread is for Questions and Answers related to Claymore the Anime.
For discussion not related to the question, please use the properer Threads.

No hard feelings.

Just to emphasize what Seska already pointed out - this thread is for relevant Claymore Questions & Answers, not a place for random chit-chat. One should only post here if he has a (meaningful)question about Claymore, and one should answer with cold, hard facts. Everything else is off-topic and is going to get deleted.

Just asking...why did Jean use her "drill technique" against Rigald instead of the other "helicopter blade" technique to get rid of Rigald? The "helicopter blade" technique cover most of her body and would've damaged Rigald instead of the straight on "drill attack" vs Rigald. Silly girl.

Is Galatea's ability to affect Yoki learn able? I have been thinking, because Clare seemed to use it on Jean like right after and i saw one of those male AB's use it so i am wondering if any claymore can simply just effectively develop it over time.
