Hmm, I think that once Shin is able to get over Hiromi he will be able to break the barrier that is holding him from accomplishing things beyond his limitations...hmm wouldn't that be nice....
after this episode I so want a NoexShin ending even more.

Well, Hiromi doesn't have much going for her, except the fact that Shin remains, to this day, basically obsessed with her. He's spent the whole show trying to find a way to make her happy, and it's only now that he believes he may be related to her that he decided to (try to) force himself to give up on his feelings for her (and so force her towards Jun, the guy he thinks she likes). She doesn't really need a "card to play": they've been in love with each other this whole time, and have a past history that's already been explained. Everyone else has needed "cards to play" to force them apart, more or less.

In other words, being in love with someone is sort of like a "trump card" -- it has the potential to single-handedly defeat all the others in the deck.

I'm not sure why you'd consider it wasted potential, or why it'd be "writing themselves into a corner". No matter who Shinichirou "ends up with", wrapping up all the threads opened by the show's premise is still the point of the show. There are only so many ways to do that and still have things make sense (of course, I'm not saying there's only one way). I guess I just honestly don't see the problem or why it's automatically so horrible. But then again, my principle has always been, so long as the journey makes sense and is enjoyable, the destination will be fine no matter what.

Ok, let's make this clear.

1) I've just moved anticipations from future episodes away from this thread. I don't know nor I care their source, but as I clearly stated several times before, they shall not belong to episode threads or character threads. In facts, they only belong to one place:

True Tears - Spoilers and Speculations (based on weekly episode previews)

That place is for every future knowledge (such as the daily website previews, future episode titles, promos, infos found somewhere else etc.etc.) and you can spoiler yourself and the others as much as you want, with any kind of episode anticipations you want.
Just let it be a quiet isle though, as a lot of persons don't want to know those facts before the time. Hence those discussions mustn't break the boundaries of that thread.

2) Fellow Mods have said this before, but let me repeat it. This is called "Episode 8 Discussion" thread, and not "Episode 9 preview discussion" thread. I don't mind to see the preview comment here and there, or included in a post actually discussing episode 8.
But, if you have to bring ahead speculation on which colour, size and material the red shirt we saw in the ep.9 preview was, then do not post here but use this thread instead:

True Tears - Speculations & Theories

That thread is meant to remain spoiler free and people shall use it for their thoughts based on factual knowledge , and not anticipations of any kind - excepting of course the ep.9 preview itself which is the object of debate - from future episodes!! (those belong to the thread listed in point 1).

Please adhere to these simple rules and now I kindly ask you all to go back discussing episode 8. Thanks.

Who else feels that this episode was a bit slower and less exciting than the previous 2?

It's been a long time since I saw a show that made me cringe as the ship I was supporting start sprouting holes and slowly slowly sink into the sea.... Shin x Hiromi is looking increasingly distant... but 4 eps to go...

It was the middle that was slow, the start and end were on par with what we've seen before. But that middle... ugh, I honestly stopped watching and just listened to them talking.

What this shows? Noe x Shin is boring Just kidding.

Well I don't think they are boring

I was rather amused at how sweet and caring Noe was towards Shin, but then this makes it even more obvious that these two can't be the ending pair. Hiromi x shin

Well it was nice and amusing to a point but then, you have to realise that more than 10 minutes were just that and, well, it got old. I mean they didn't have to literally show it all, it could have been implied pretty easily.

If they gave a quiz about the Shin and Noe development for episode 8, I will fail miserably because I skipped forward a lot. I might go back later and watch the episode again If I have free time. Now the part about Hiromi and Jun, I can get a perfect score there. I will skip Aiko's scene because it is so painful,

I loved the middle part. I love NoexShin. That is real love and real life. Shin seems truly happy for the first time in the show (except for the brief time during which we saw him thinking that Hiromi loved him...) and Noe is a great psychological encouragement and support for him.

I don't think anyone has to worry about Hiromi and Jun making love, but I have to say I was disturbed by words like "filthy" and "gutter." Sex is not dirty or evil, it is beautiful and good -- as well as being dangerous and powerful. But I do agree wholeheartedly that this would not have been the right time or situation for them to do that.

in the end of the episode I really start hating Hiromi, like asking Jun to take her to another town just becuz she is mentally unstable at this moment... and trying to get the attention of shin?
really like Noe, she endured alot of pain in the past and finally things start to get better for her, just why does Hiromi try to destroy it... she had her chance for happiness, dont destroy people's lifes... like she said before in the episode, she is just talking (and handling?) like shin's mom

Another episode of True Tears goes by, and again, the anticipation. Definitely, the best anime series showing right now.

Noe and Shin together was really cute and great. I love their chemistry. Shin seemed to warm up to the idea of Noe, but I feel his heart still lies elsewhere (Hiromi). I don't mind them ending up together if they are like this, but I still prefer Hiromi.

Aiko is KOed.

Jun is still creepy, but improving. I noticed his very shocked face when Noe mentioned that she was going out with Shin'ichiro.

As for Hiromi's clothing, let me try to put together what she has been wearing all day in episode 8 and not changed since her bike ride. She had a pure white straight and long skirt, black socks, a lavender jacket, a pink scarf, and a blue shirt. Preview had her in cream jacket unclothing, hence not the same time frame as the bike ride.

Hiromi seems to be in a pinch. She does not have a way out, so she is running away. Why hasn't she broken up with Jun? Probably, because circumstances haven't allowed her to. It was just at noon that she found out about the deal with Shin'ichiro. Then she found out how much is like Shin's mom with respect to Noe. She just needs to get away to think things through.

She is not trying to get the attention of shin... Heck, did you really think that she did it on purpose so that Shin would look at her on the bike? Like she knew he was on the street at that exact point in time at that exact location.

As I mentioned above, she is asking Jun so that she can get away from this craziness, to allow her to think things through. Where else could she go right now? No relatives or even close friends to turn to, and no means of transportation to get there.

Hiromi X Shin for the win. As relentlessflame mentioned, they are truly in love with each other ever since the beginning, and half the world blowing up still might not keep them apart in the end.

Disagreement here, on one part. Noe and Shin are super cute together, no doubt there. It even melts my ornery, cold broken heart
But I don't think it's close to real love. Shin is responding in a way that shows he likes what she gives him, not really who she is: a quirky, somewhat naive and immature girl. She may indeed care for him deeply, I have a hard time saying with her relatively young mindset. Regardless of whether she does or doesn't, the emotional support she gives is a very real thing and leaves him with dopey smiles in the morning and wild hair.

The difference is very fine, to be sure, but in the end that can break a relationship.

I'm with relentlessflame. Hiromi and Shin have a deeper emotional connection so far than Noe and Shin have shown. I'd still put her higher on the winners list.
