The special was a prologue, an Episode 0.
A TV anime adapting volumes 4 and 5 and also including an anime original storyline will air in July 2019. https://anime.elmelloi.com/ |

Oh hey, the subtitle is the same title of vol4 and 5 which involves Olga and the Animuspheres. Nice.
Loved the pilot episode. The talking might put off people but I like it personally. Love the voice cast especially having Add as OnoD given the secret of that little fella. Excited for this and Babylonia anime. 2 Fate anime in 2019 is a win ans something to look forward to. |

Well, given each novel is more or less self-contained mystery in beginning with bigger arc kicking off later I guess they want go with that. I am sad though as it means less Aoko and Luvia.
Anyway I really liked prologue episode. It introduced Big Bens students, his relationship with Grey and most of their characterisation. I always were fan of Nakai character designs too. Only one thing bother me a bit. Any solid spellcaster should be able kill Weaver even without messing around like this. Though maybe he was chosen exactly because he was small fry couldn't defend against mastermind memory manipulation (and would be probably much cheaper then Kiritsugu if he was alive for example).

I found the first episode pretty fun, I'm looking forward to the series next year, maybe more than the Babylonia one (maybe). I just hope Crunchyroll gets the series too (otherwise Netflix won't release it until months later).
Sure seems like there will be a ton of references in this series, I'll try to catch as many as I can. Not to mention mage society is... really messed up (and complicated). But its nice to see Waver is still Waver and a better person than most people there. Though with the art style its a bit hard to understand why he doesn't like to see Gray's face. Nice to see his gamer habit referenced too (with all those game systems in his office). Rare to see a mage with a decent handle on modern technology. |

Using cats in the first episode (well, prologue) is cheating! That kind of thing never fails to tug at my heartstrings. We've seen older Waver in other Fate works, but this is the first time we got a look at what he's like outside of "business". Nice to see he still has a very soft side, and that his encounter with Iskandar is still deeply engraved in him and has influenced him.
Gray is very mysterious. I was told who she's supposed to look like and yeah, it's really not that obvious in this episode.

As much as I dislike the cancerous tumor that is now the Fate franchise to the Nasuverse, I can't think of a more legitimate and justified spin off from the main canon than an After Story about Waver Velvet.
I wasn't amazed by the pilot what with all the gobbledegook that flew over my head, and it doesn't have nearly the same fantastical atmosphere as The Magus Bride but I didn't think it was bad for a pilot and I definitely would like to see more nonetheless. Here's hoping.

It was watchable. Waver and Gray have enough intrigue for me.
If this avoids being episodic/mobile phone game nonsense, I'll stick with it. Yet another title that got adapted before Witch on the Holy Night. Beginning to think that one will never get adapted.

A Type Moon work that isn't (directly) related to Fate getting an anime adaptation? Not gonna happen any time soon. There's still tons of Fate material for them to milk first (and I honestly wouldn't mind seeing some of them animated).
