The problem resolved itself somehow. Video and Audio playback is smooth again, only rare random occurances of the previous issues. Although the CPU is a little more sensitive now; will be re-starting the laptop to stock condition if the problem persists/comes back.

Are you using CoreAVC? I doubt your CPU would be able to handle 1080P without it.

Something for sure is that the free-ups and off-sync stuff are definitely abnormal, as even if your CPU can't handle the decoding in real-time, it will simply skip frames at most. Maybe you should try installing the latest FFDShow codec and see if it helps.

MPC and FFDshow don't skip frames by default.

I have a related problem with .mkv .h264 playback.

It would be awesome if someone could give me any pointers about how to play hi-res videos on an old computer (and don't tell me to download CCCP, I already have the most up-to-date version). I've tried playing these hi-res files through ZoomPlayer and Media Player Classic and the video and audio are not synchronized because my computer is just too old and slow. The video is several seconds behind the audio and it just keeps getting farther and farther behind the longer I watch an episode. Low-res fansubs work just fine, by the by. Thanks people. ^_^

Sound like a problem I had with my Dell. Try CoreAVC might be the only thing to help you play the videos.

Whats your CPU and Graphics/Video Card?

P.S. LoL, CoreAVC dosen't always help though. Didn't help my HP G60-120US too much; My drivers are messed up on my laptop so after I restart the whole thing I'll be able to play 720p and 1080p/i again linked with my HDTV.

Oh yeah, for the people who were trying to help me. Thanks but I've resolved the problem; it rarely freezes/slow-mos anymore. The videos play even smoother when it's not linked to my HDTV so I guess my laptop can't always handle playback via HDMI; or I did too much Marathoning ^^;;

If your computer is really old, you need to install CoreAVC, it has the best performance in h264 playback, try this:

Haha...yet my custom computer from 2006 is handling HD better than my new laptop that I got this year... ^^;;

Uses half the power of what the laptop uses -.-;;

Ah, well. Saves me the risk of one day making my laptop too hot. lol

The format I've been having problems with are h264. However, until recently I haven't been having any issues playing them at all. My laptop would usually use at least 20~35% CPU; 45% at most. I find it odd why I'm having this problem since I'd say out of at least 40 .mkv h264 videos I have playback perfectly fine except for a few that I've recently bumped into. There is also no difference in size (average size: 230MB). Would anyone happen to know any possible cause? And the only video I actually have problems with are HD 1080i/p videos; which playback slow-motion whenever I run a certain number of programs/folders at the same time. Anyway here's my laptops specs: - HP G60-120US - CPU: AMD Turion Dual-Core RM-70 2.00GHz - Memory: 3GB - HDD: 250GB - OS: Windows Vista Home Premium Video Players: - Windows Media Player 11 (Default) - Media Player Classic (Back Up) Also, whenever I play the mentioned .mkvs they react differently. WMP 11: Plays about 2.xx Minutes and begins to freeze-up/slow-mo. MPC: Plays about 3.xx~5.xx Minutes and does the same. I've tried re-watching some of the .mkv [h264] that I have and they still playback perfectly fine. Does anyone know why this may be happening? I'd really appreciate you help. After reading your post I tried playing a 1080i/p video and it had the same issue as the h264 mkv videos. They'll all play fine for awhile then start playing slow-motion and come off sync with the audio. The Jitter rate will go from 1~2ms to 30ms then rapidly go to 8Xms+. The result of playing the video will have my CPU jump from 50%~100 randomly and will slow down in reaction times. EDIT 2: Installed CoreAVC. Some videos are playing better. The quality has returned however, now it will throw the computer to 100% at ANY RANDOM time; with any .mkv h264 video. I don't understand whats going wrong since I've been able to watch about 4X videos in h264 format from January to last week. All of a sudden this week I've been having problems with .mkv h264. Is there any specific way that I should have CCCP and CoreAVC setup via Configuration to fix anything? I've already tried the recommended selections upon installing CoreAVC; even tried uninstalling both and re-installing to no change in result. Thanks in advance for your time and help. However, I can't really do anything on the computer anymore while I play them; which I don't get. Since when I played all .mkv h264 videos (accept 1080) I'd be able to use multiple programs (like msn,aim,firefox,etc) all at once without the computer even trying or having any playback issues at all. I've had this problem before with my Dell Latitude Laptop and nothing I was told to do worked until I ended up completely restarting the laptop. I could do that with this laptop too but for at least not for a long time. I also tried reviewing actions that I made last week to see what may have caused the issue. But nothing was abnormal off of what I always do daily with my laptop. Tried deleting unncesscary TEMP files, history files and cookies still same issue. Although defraing the laptop somehow increassed the length of playback time before it'd start freezing up into slow-motion. So basically whatevers going on is completely random. Could it be a bad driver on the graphics card? EDIT: Something that I forgot to notice is that the computers been really sensitive lately. Even though I have at least 57~60% available memory out of 3GB and mainly under 3X% CPU usage, sometimes the laptop will choke up on me randomly; even if it is one program running. Could this be related to what may be going on with playback issues? As before the laptop would run perfectly fine as if it were still brand new except for this week...
