Slender (Free Horror Game)
Download Here [56.64MB]
This recently released Freeware game based on the Slender Man mythos is already getting a lotta hype online, and having tried it myself... I pride myself in having been able to play through the entirety of Amnesia: The Dark Descent even as I was feeling the cold chills down my back and actually screamed once. But after a few minutes with this game... I'm gonna need someone to cover my back before I attempt to actually finish this. I'd normally embed the trailer vid, but I think it's better to go into this game blind so to speak. It's a quick download, so check it out.

Ohey this must be the game my friend was talking about.
He was sick for awhile, so when I got to contact him again, he told me he downloaded this "awesome free horror game" that would make me "shit my pants". I asked him what it was, but he wouldn't tell me, because he wanted to show me at his house himself or else ruin the surprise. Whelp. Looks like he looses. Thanks LoweGear! EDIT: Also mine seems to be lagging craptons no matter what resolution or setting I put it on. :I

Do remember that the game is actually only in Beta stage, so it's likely not optimized for every system. My rig handles it just fine at max resolution, though any rig that can play Crysis can play most anything

Alright not bad.
First run I found 4 of the 8 pages. Game does a great job with the sound and the random static that pops up makes me pretty much jump every time. The Slender Man himself is creepy and the first time I saw him I just made for the woods, managed to get totaly lost and just walked about random, to see if I could find some more pages. It got better after that, but it still was creepy turning around to see him standing just behind you. In the end I ran into the level boarder (the fence), with Slender right behind me, so I decided to just give up for now and walked up to him to let him get me. I played the game itself on "beautiful" with my normal resolution of 1680 x 1050. No lag for me.

I dunno if people here know about this, but if you want to dig deeper into the Slender Man mythology, there's an excellent on-going original Youtube saga called Marble Hornets that is also based on the Slender Man. It's the scariest and most interesting horror fiction I've ever encountered. It starts here: http://youtu.be/Wmhfn3mgWUI
That being said, I'm definitely gonna have to check this game out. I'm just gonna have to do it with a friend and at the right time.

I hope they don't remake the game into a first person Alan Wake. Don't get me wrong, I love Alan Wake, but the beauty of Slender was the simplicity of the experience. No big story, just an inclosed space with an enemy that is always just a little blurry but constantly in pursuit.
edit: since I didn't see this listed above, there are a variety of maps/mods created for the game at http://www.slendermansshadow.com/. They are fun little extras, but they are not as good as the original. Last edited by james0246; 2012-09-24 at 09:32. |

lol this is the third time I've heard about this game in some form in about 20 hours with the first time ever being yesterday when I actually played it at my cousins. I figured it was popular when he seemed so psyched about installing it, but seeing an LP of it pop up in my youtube feed and hearing about it here pretty much confirms it. It certainly is atmospheric, but it was funny when he freaked out and almost knocked his new laptop over when he saw the Slender Man. Not sure it's quite THAT scary...to me the actual tension is from trying not to look at him yet knowing he's right behind you.

Slender: The Arrival Pre-Order (with beta access)
Wonder if the beta will be as insomnia inducing... Edit: And someone's already put up Beta footage:

When I first got into this game, I nearly crapped in my undies. It was so...weird
The game has horible graphic design. However the game itself has this terrifying atmophere that makes you anxous when you get the first note. |
